Last night I noticed that when I applied pressure to the brake pedal the brake lights came on strong and as I continued to press the pedal they went off. If I lightly touch the pedal they work great. It seems to me this is a defective brake light switch (BLS) but I have never heard of this before. Could this be a BLS adjustment issue? I don't think I have been driving with this out of adjustment for years, but who knows, maybe I have? I drove the 40 from Denver to Moab and back and my wife, who was following behind me, did not notice this behavior so I think it's new.

I find it a little hard to believe that the BLS went out of adjustment. Has anyone seen this before? Should I just put on a knew BLS? Maybe pull out the existing one and test the function with a volt/ohm meter?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Really the only thing it could be is the brake switch... Strange that it would act like that but that's really all that it could be. Of course check the wiring for safe/proper routing.
