Oil Pressure gauge died yesterday. Confirmed the gauge was working by grounding the sending unit wire. Nobody had a sending unit locally so RockAuto overnight for the win.

Went with a BeckArnley hoping a Toyota part would be in the box. No dice.

Nice build. You need to teach a class on macguivering electronics to us plebs.

Left Birmingham yesterday for the Georgia Traverse. Started at Burrells Ford Campground in South Carolina. Forgot to take more pictures as I’ve been running maps on my phone.

We drove about 30 miles of the Traverse last night and stopped At a small pull off for camp. The RTT is nice you can set up camp in a matter of minutes. Couldn’t of asked for better weather, Temps were in the 60’s

Continued on this morning headed Towarded Helen. Terrain wasn’t anything to difficult, but several water crossings and beautiful countryside.

As we followed the route laid out there were a few washouts that hadn’t been documented yet. All part of the adventure.

Nothing to exciting to report. I serviced the AHC system. The system works perfect but the ride was way to rigid. Ordered 3 quarts of AHC fluid from the dealer.

This is what I pulled out of the AHC resivor and out of the 4 bleeder valves at the frame. It’s supposed to be a light pink.

Pretty sure the soccer mom before me, probably put washer fluid in the wrong resivor.

I pulled out the old laptop from 2002 and set up Techstream to make sure my AHC pressures were in spec.

Changing the fluid made a huge difference in the ride.

I'll bet ditching the AHD does even better. I had a Lincoln Mk9 which I loved to death but when the ahc died the car was valueless.

Nice base for a fine LC.
How about leading a Georgia Traverse event, teach us what you've learned? I think the Hurricane Creek area is tapped out for a while.

One of the many Water crossings.

Maybe it's just a weird youtube video processing issue, but that RTT looks like it's moving from side to side on the roof rack in that video...

^^ Good eye. Agreed, looks like it's sliding on the roof rack rails.

Yep. Good eye. After the last 60 miles of bouncing it worked the tent loose. Snugged it up after that crossing.

Continued about 90 miles yesterday. Stopped in Helen, had a dark beer and agreed to continue on.

Few more pictures from yesterday.
Stocked up on sunflower seeds and got fuel at a random country store.

Camped here last night right next to the water.

Day 4. We finished the Traverse and made it to the state line. The last leg was uneventful but scenery was beautiful.

We started the day at our camp along Mill Creek just outside the Cohutta Wilderness.

More fried Bologna and coffee to start the day. Modifying the extend-a-hitch to sit level when the tailgate was open worked perfect as a extension of the tailgate to meal prep.

The track continued on west towards Dalton, Ga and connected us to more forrest service roads. The roads are more of the same we have seen the past few days and pictures look the same too. They all look the same but lead to different scenery. Came across another old cemetery the last day and made a point to stop and pay our respect. This was the oldest I saw. 1796-1878. Astemas lived a long life for the time.

The end of the Traverse, or the beginning, depending on which way you travel. No Welcome to Alabama sign, just a simple a sign Entering Cherokee county and a line in the pavement.

Here’s the trac I recorded from Gaia. We stopped in Helen for a few hours and I breifly forgot to restart the recording. Also had my phone died once and didn’t realize it for a short time. I figure there was between 350-360 miles and about 24 hours of driving.

Great pics and write up guys!!

We finished the Traverse around lunch on Thursday so we decided to head to Horse pens 40. We were tired of driving and it was a local spot close I had spent much of my 20’s at. I was much thinner and back then I could hold my own bouldering. Camping is offered and we were both due for showers so it was a nice place to relax for the afternoon.

Amazing rock formations and views.

If your ever driving through Alabama I highly recommend stoping by the special place. Horse Pens 40 has seen over 15,000 years of human habitation, contains ancient Indian burial grounds dating, and linked to the time of the Cherokee removal known as the Trail of Tears.

Day 5. Talladega National Forrest. We ran a 14 mile trail known as 6000-1. It was more difficult than anything we had seen all week in Georgia. About 1/2 was smooth gravel and the other half was just a rocky road.

Outstanding Austin. I would love to make a trek like this, if only I could.
