**I'm not interested in your opinion of a Weber carb or how its "Junk" and I "Should go get an OEM Carb**

I put a Weber 38/38 on my 60 with a de-smogged 2F. It now soots really bad at idle and stumbles a little when taking off from a stop. I put a fuel pressure regulator in to cut the pump pressure down and also recurved the distributor, but that did little to correct the problem. It also has been getting around 8 MPGs, although I'm not sure if that is normal for a cruiser on 33s with a rack.

I've been trying to wrap my head around how to properly set up the carb and get the jet sizing correct, but it is hard to get a clear answer with the volume of posts on here. What is the recommended jet sizing for my setup? (I'm in Colorado so I know the altitude makes a difference).

My fj60 is also desmogged with a Weber and I have soot as well. It appears that the PO had the fuel turned up quite a bit, and when I turned it down, the "extra rich" smell went away immediately. I'm thinking that may have been the contributor to my soot.

But, you have me thinking about the fuel pressure regulator now, since my fj40 started running much better (1F and Weber) once I got the fuel pressure to 3 psi

Does it still soot or not since you turned it down?
I got my regulator from O'Riellys, nothing special but it's very easy to adjust.

Hard to tell since the exhaust pipe is so old, I haven’t washed it off to see if it does it now, but it sure smells better.

Could you send me a link to that regulator?

I went weber 38 at the same time I did my desmog. It would stumble at take off and was idling very high. We opened up the jets a bit and turned the idle down and it started running fine. I was also getting a lot of dieseling before we made that adjustment. My MPG sucks, but its not 8...more like 11-12. People have strong opinions about carbs on these trucks. My advice would be to have whatever you can work on well or have someone near that can work on it well. I like to use my truck, not work on it so I just want it to run well and hunt.

If you go to carb unlimited I think their website is Carburetion.com they have all the guides on how to set up your weber and they have all the parts that you need to adjust your weber, if it's stumbles when it takes off it may have to small of a Accelerator jet. Mind stumbled when I got it had a 55 pump Jet on it I went to 60 and it cured the problem. As far as the soot on exhaust you may be too rich on the idle circuit and you may be too rich on the main circuit if you live up in Denver that's what 5,500'I think if I lived in Denver my main jets would probably be 140s or 145s in my air jets would probably be 230. If you go to carb unlimited's website and at the gray bars up on top there is a area carb information click on that scroll down to the weber Carburetor adjustment and print the sheet of paper and it's got some pretty good information on how to set up

That website appears to have the information I've been looking for, thank you!
