Hello! I seem to have a water issue in my roof. Every time I start from a stop or brake I hear what sounds like a wet and wild waterpark sloshing around in the roof. It also sounds like a substantial amount of water too, but that could be because its a few inches directly above my head. It happens after rain or snow -- then presumably evacuates somehow. Then I forget about it until next time it rains.

I have investigated the sunroof and the surrounding gutter, it appears to be bone dry. I have used very light compressed air to clear these downspout tubes and I can send water down and follow it out through to ground. It should also be noted that the ceiling liner is not wet or damp.

I was looking at the hardware that secures the roof rack system and channels -- is there a slim chance water is entering in through here? Any other suggestions on what to check out or examine would be greatly appreciated!

I had a similar situation with an '05 Land Rover LR3 -- long before I smartened up and got a got an LC. Water was intruding around the sunroof gutters and was seeping into / around the adjacent ceiling liner. But it was definitely the clogged up downspouts. I chalked it up to poor English engineering and design, cleared them with some light air and we were all set.

Thanks so much!

I don't think there's anywhere for water to get trapped in a quantity great enough to be sloshing around in the roof. I've had water trapped in my rockers though that made sloshing noises like you've described, there's vents in the rockers that get plugged so the water cant' escape. Try getting under the truck and locating the rubber plugs, pull them and stick a finger in there to see if it's wet. If they are full water may come gushing out, so be ready for that.

The water doesn't stay in the roof of mine. It wants to pour out when you step on the brakes. Of course, it has to ALWAYS pour right into your crotch, whether the driver or passenger.

An actual car wash is out of the question.

Sunroof attention will be this summer for sure.

Make sure you dont have a stray container of coolant in the back. That was throwing me off for the last few days.

hey there

You may be able to send water down the tubes but they may be infact only partially open. This will cause water to stay in the tray longer than intended.

I stripped my interior last weekend and found both my back tubes kinked (like many others here). This was causing overflow problems in the sunroof tray.

Try hosing your sunroof and if see if the drainage can keep up with the intake. Mine couldn't. If yours can I wouldn't worry about it.

I know this is an old thread, but would you mind sharing what was involved in fixing the kink? I'm assuming this is the same issue I'm having (front drains clear, all drains clear down at the rubber plugs underneath, but still getting water sloshing up in the sunroof). Were you able to simply "unkink" the line or did something have to be replaced?

Thanks!

David

Typically, there is a piece of plastic that is wrapped around the hose to allow it to be flexible, yet hold it's shape. Think of a PVC pipe cut in a barbershop pole twist around it, then slid over the hose can see some of these design type protectors under the hood supporting a hose on a wear or kink risk point.

I think what I did was unkinked it and used a piece of cut up garden hose and wire tied it to smooth out the bend...if that makes sense. In hindsight, I should have looked for a plastic barbed elbow and replaced the kinked section.

Thanks guys. That’s helpful. I get nervous at the idea of messing with the headliner, but I think the time is quickly approaching.
