Greetings all, I recently picked up a new to me 13 LX. I absolutely love the car, I previously always rocked a V8 4Runner and also briefly owned a GX460 but the LX was a game changer. Anyways, I am having a pretty serious issue. I noticed my rear cargo area carpet is soaking wet as well as the passenger floor is slightly damp. When I first purchased the car I noticed that all the lights were blinking and the security alarm light was blinking when the car was off. I then found out the car had $20,000 worth of harnesses replaced about a year ago with the same symptoms, I looked closely at the repair order but couldn’t find that the actually fixed the water intrusion issue, only the harness. I do know that after doing some research I found out if your windshield was replaced it’s common that if the cowl isn’t sitting flush against the car water can leak onto the HVAC area and allow water inside. I did confirm that my cowl is not sitting 100% flush but nothing seams to be broken. I’m not sure where to even start.

Yeah 200 has lots of problems.

Cowl is what you need to fix first. There is literally 2 threads today of people with the same issues.

Agree, sure sounds like your cowl is leaking- but the fact your rear cargo mat is wet makes me think you have a leak from the roof rack area. Has the rack been removed or changed recently?

Here is a good thread on water in the cargo area. The best way to search Mud is to use Google and include ih8mud in the search term.

I was expecting this to be another valley plate / radiator / water pump leak thread, but no, it's a "real" water leak

Any of those seem so simple compared to this.

Park in garage, don’t drive them in the rain or snow.

I just bought the car so I haven’t messed with anything. I did a little peaking and noticed a few of the drip rails are missing but it seems like that’s common and I haven’t seen anyone complain about it causing leaks.

I think I’ll start off with cleaning the sunroof drains, removing the cowl and trying to seal it, and sealing the rear harness plug above the hatch although it had a perfect seal and wasn’t dislodged like the link mentioned above and go from there. Thanks for all the help.

$20,000 repair order due to water intrusion damage?

That vehicle should have been totaled by insurance, parted out, and crushed instead.
Im sure it didn’t actually need all that but being a dealership of course they want to do the most. I just find it crazy how after a 20k bill they didn’t even fix the root of the problem.

Pull the trim off the door jam and look for water in the sills. Look at the Four main body connectors (two each side) for green corrosion. These are just above the floor level at each side by the front doors.

Water can get to this area from a failed sunroof drain, cowl, or even front roof rack foot.

There isn’t much around on rear leaks , I tend to think rear roof rack foot for that one, but could be a rubber seal for a door or the hatch.

If you can, pull back the trim and look for leaks when an accomplice pours water in various places.

How long ago did you buy it? I would be calling that dealer and taking it back.

Unfortunately I bought it from a private party and I already beat him up on the price so I’m SOL. I got a pretty solid deal on it, tons of dealer maintenance but I bought an LX being the most expensive purchase I’ve made because I was tired of tinkering with cars.

Update, I took the rear apart, pulled the carpet and spent an hour hosing down everything in the rear today and unfortunately couldn’t get a single drop of water to come through. Sunroof drains are clean, front cowl is definitely an issue but a separate issue since that’s only the passenger front.

mine happens when I'm parked on an incline (nose up)

I think on level the car drain system works. But when parked inclined overnight I think the water flows in a way to overwhelm the drains and I get some in the passenger well

Frustrating you didn’t find it. Ruling out things is useful too.
