It'll also compress a suspension or probably pull a truck sideways enough to get the body off of a tree or rock... I am thinking of maybe making this into a portable with straps to attach it to a slider or cage, for example, and then the end of the rope to some anchor for a side tweek pull... I often need to get the FJ60 body off of a tree or rock just enough to squeeze by. With this I don't have to rely on a come-along (not a bad solution) or another truck with a winch...
Yeah, a small "pony" winch can be handy when you're stuck close to stuff that's gonna gouge the body.
A useful substitute would be a decent come-along.
I carry one for this purpose and, well, other things it could be useful for. Problem was, when I needed it most, it was during the transition between the old truck and the 80. I didn't have my recovery stuff sorted out yet, but wasn't planning any stucks when I headed to my folks for Xmas a couple years back.
Happened to be out front of the house and heard the second deer I got free get hit on the highway at the top of the hill. Sure enough, there it was. Dad got his pickup and we dragged it down the road to the garage after the cop got done writing the incident up.
Neither Dad nor I should've been wrestling that big ol buck, but we somehow got a rope around it and hoisted it over the rafters for field dressing.
It would've been a lot easier with a come-along or a small electric. His come-along was at a job site nowhere close. So much for be prepared
Do you think this would make a decent ATV winch? My Polaris weighs about 700 pounds, and my Honda 250 lacks the power to pull it out whenever I get stuck, I just drive my Cruiser out and yank it out usually, but this would save a trip back to the truck. This just seems about half the price as most ATV winches around town
I just received mine today. It is as advertised... a WarnWorks 1700, new in the box... THANKS SO MUCH 76FJ40 FOR THE NOTICE THAT THIS DEAL WAS AVAILABLE... ih8mud folks ROCK!
Stumbled across this last night and may have gotten the last one. Hard to beat at $80 but looks like no longer available. They do have some SuperWinch deals though.
I picked one up at Quality Supply for $100. Going to put it on my trailer to pull the raft up in tricky situations. Then im going to build a headache rack for my truck to mount it to so i can pull elk into the bed with ease. Sweet little winch.
