So I got stuck in some snow and my 4 wheeler's winch wouldn't work (presumably rusted connectors) and the tractor was squirting hydraulic fluid so I was left with a come-along, 2 straps, and 1 chain to get myself out of this predicament and now my hands hurt and I'm worn out. I've put off the winch purchase long enough and have a friend who has rebuilt several Warn 8274s with great success and plan to commission his expertise if in fact this winch will mount to some of today's front winch bumpers.

My questions are:

1. What manufacturers (if any) make a front bumper that is compatible?

2. Has anybody installed one that can post some pics pretty please.

Wishing you a mud free new year!

Trunk - thanks. I did see that (1) pic on the second link you posted.

I was really hoping some readers would post other pics with supporting info.

lots of views on this thread but zero involvement so I will blaze my own trail this next spring and post some pics as progress progresses.

Just because you can get one cheap doesn't mean you should do it. The 8274 size and mounting will make for a bumper that sticks way out in front of the truck. Also, it's rated at 8k, which is pretty low for the 100, you could get by with a snatch block in a bad stuck. I'd look to the VR line from Warn, great winches.

I've had to put this project off but now have a super skilled ornamental iron welder that can design and build the cradle to hang an 8274 on my 100.

Heres a list of things I'm planning to do to the 8274:

1. Add fill and drain holes.
2. Upgrade to the 4.6 HP motor.
3. Upgrade the brake pads.
4. Install Albright Soloniod.
5. Blast and powdercoat exterior.

Am I on the right path? Several of my friends have these without the bigger motor and one guy pulls out a diesel bronco regularly and has never bogged it down and can't understand why i want the 4.6 hp motor.

There are lower gears being made that I assume would increase the pulling power but I can't find any info on actual lbs. IN that regard there are also faster gears being made but that doesnt interest me.

Nice project...please keep detailed notes and photos as I am going to do this next year to my 100. I bought a used 8274 a couple of years ago for cheap and cleaned it all up...just haven't had the time nor front bumper to make it happen. Hopefully this coming spring...

I think you are on the right track...I agree with the upgraded motor and Albright solenoid...same things I am looking at. What bumper are you thinking of retrofitting? I know the ARB commercial 100 series bumper in Australia can take the 8274, but none that I know of Stateside. I am planning on cutting up a bumper to make it happen.

I am planning on using the factory bumper but the winch may look odd hanging off the front all by its lonesome.
