So, to cut a long story short, I've snagged a 30 year old 8274 for $50 and managed to pick up a brand new fairlead and a 68609 (Warn 9.5 XP) control pack for a case of beer.
I know, right?!
Anyway, I've just mounted the winch up and considering I won't be using the 30 year old 8274 control pack/solenoids, I'd like to at least wire up the 68609 to test the winch.
The control pack has a long red lead, for the battery no doubt, a thin red lead labelled "Motor earth" and 3 leads labelled, “A”, “F-1” and “F-2”.
There is no other earth lead like on my 8274 control pack either.
Can anyone tell me exactly how to wire this up to get it functioning properly?
Many thanks in advance.

Red goes to the battery
F1 and F2 go to one or the other of the two posts on the motor that are side by side on the same end of the motor.
A goes to the single post on the other side of the motor, which is usually the end where the brushes are.
The motor case is grounded to complete the circuit.
Reversing F1 and F2 change the direction the motor turns.

Do I need to ground the motor case to the chassis or is the little red wire and the fact it's all mounted up enough for a ground?

You really need to ground the motor body back to the source battery. While the winch may work grounding through incidental contact with the chassis you introduce a lot of unnecessary resistance that will lower the applied voltage on the motor, degrading winch performance and causing the motor to heat up more than it should.
