I have been looking for a few months and thought I'd see if anyone had a nicely cared for cruiser they were looking to pass on. I am looking for a late Fj80 or lx, under 100k, locked and in nice condition, if black, definitely a bonus, long shot, thought I'd check, I have put a couple of bids on cruisers on here, but most of the ones that are good seem to be on the west coast, and hard to compete when you've got to spend the extra money to ship

thanks for the reply, saw that one last night, but 14k starting bid is crazy

Lawdog,

I'm having one shipped right now from Portland, OR to Alabama. The shipping is only costing $900. I wouldn't let that additional cost limit my search to your area. It's much more important to buy the right one. Just my 2 cents.

Btw, you are echoing my exact thoughts when I started my search. In the end, though, I paid $14k for a nice locked '97 80 with 113k miles. The big issues for me were lockers, rust, maintenance, miles and color...more or less in that order and this one ticked all the boxes to my satisfaction.

I lost two, one for more than $14k and one for a bit less, due to 1 day's hesitation on my part. They also ticked all the boxes.

While it's great to say that you can find what you're looking for at or below book value, I found that to be next to impossible for one with lockers in the 3 or 4 months that I spent looking. Unfortunately, no soccer mom driven, locked, '96 or '97 80 were to be found in that time frame!

If the black one on ebay doesn't sell then I would run a carfax and give the guy a call. Again, just my 2 cents. Good luck with your search; believe me, I know how frustrating it can be.

Wareagle,
thanks a lot for your thoughts, greatly appreciated. Glad you found the one you were looking for, I guess I thought it was a lot more than that to ship, helps a lot.

I'm using these guys. They ship terminal to termainal. I actually had a similar priced quote for door to door but then someone has to be there, etc. This way the seller just drops it off at his convenience (terminals all over the place) and the buyer (or his/her agent) picks up on the receiving end at their convenience.

Mine was dropped off in Portland last Friday and is still sitting there so I can't give them a complete thumbs up yet as it's still a work in progress. Eta is 21st at the moment.

If you want my second choice (really a toss up but I already made the deal on the first one before I saw this one), I would buy this one. It isn't black so you might not be interested. They sent me a bunch of pics and it looks to be in great shape. I haven't investigated maintenance or carfax.

80's with under 100K are becoming increasingly rare - keep in mind that the newest 80 came off the assmebly line sometime in late 96/ early 97. Since I'm good with math, I'll point out that that's over 10 years old.

Anyway, why the must on under 100K? A well maintained 80 is good for...god knows how many miles with regular maintenance. The bottom line is that an 80 with under 100K is probably going to be in the $12-$14K range. Just my $.02.

Oh, have you talked to that bismarkguy seller on ebay? He actually seems like he's a decent guy (as used car guys go), and he sees and sells lots of 80s. I've never heard anybody say anything bad about him. Just a thought.

I have a black 97 LX 450 in Atlanta with 120K. See sig for details. I imported (well drove when I moved) mine from Cali. It is a Cali born and raised rig. It is not for sell though :flipoff2::lol: Just thought I would razz you a little. I paid $14,500 for mine in Dec. 05' with 84K miles. All chromed out with gold package and all. It was pristine. It is now scratched dirty but still very well taken care of. Funny thing is, I didn't want black. I wanted lockers though and I wasn't going to pass up on this opportunity based on color. I though I got a great deal on mine. Just giving you those numbers in case they may help you at all. Of course supply in Cali is, like you said, a lot better.....but then again demand is higher too.

Good luck and let me know if I can help you out at all. I am in Smyrna now and this in my second 80.

I wouldn't trust him, search in the 80's section for a variety of opinions

Rust bucket

Really? I haven't seen many 80's with rust issues (absent unresolved body repair issues)...can you elaborate? I was going to go look at this one.

the lx450 doesn't have locks and the 97 LC is rusted to heck underneath, and wrecked, then half a** repaired in the back, really appreciate you guys posting them and for the help!

You talking about the "1997 Toyota Land Cruiser 4x4 w/ diff lock!!! PRICE REDUCTION" in Altanta (Decatur)? So it is a rust bucket? My 89 was a nother car and I swore up and down I would never buy anything that lived above the Mason-Dixon Line. It was a true PITA to work on.

I think you would have had a hard time turning a bolt underneath
