Hi! Newbie here who just recently purchased a 2000 Land Cruiser, and while taking it out for a confidence drive, I noticed that when I engaged the center lock, both VSC OFF and VSC TRAC lights illuminate and will remain on until the ignition is switched off.
Digging around the forums, it has been said that it is normal for those lights to come on when cemter lock is engaged, but my owners manual says that the VSC TRAC light indicates a problem and to take the vehicle in for service as soon as possible.
Also, I can find no information as to why these lights remain on until the vehicle is turned off.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do they remain on when center lock is disengaged?

OK, that's what mine does. Seems weird, but I guess I won't worry about it.

I just replaced the switch on the transfer case and been playing with cdl button/lights(I had no CDL lights). I've experienced two scenarios.

#1 CDL engaged; CDL, VSC OFF and VSC TRAC illuminate.
CDL disengaged; CDL lights off, VSC OFF and VSC TRAC remain on until restart.

#2 CDL engaged; CDL and VSC OFF illuminate.
CDL disengaged; CDL and VSC lights off.

I'm inclined to think scenario #2 is the expected result.

That was what I was thinking, but many people in the forum seem to regard #1 as normal for their LC/LX470.

I would take it to a Toyota dealer, but dealers tend to find very expensive problems on out-of-warranty vehicles even when none exist, and also want to charge customers even more when their expensive repairs fail to correct the problem.

Oh my goodness, I am experiencing EXACTLY the same problem, as a new owner of a 2007 LC.

I found this problem this evening and registered for ih8mud 10 min ago, and I found your post. JFK.
Now I can rest assured that it is not a big deal, after seeing your post, combined with my testing result tonight.

I tested my car and made the following observations:
1. Sometimes the VSC/TRAC light would not go on even though I engaged the diff (~10% of chance now, and the diff of the car has not been used for years by the previous owner, as I guess)
2. The A-TRAC function seemed to work normal even though the diff was engaged, which was followed by the appearance of both VSC/TRAC light and VSC off light on the dashboard. However, the green A-TRAC light on the dashboard would not blink when A-TRAC was actually working. This is supported by the obvious ABS action sound heard from both sides of the car when I drove the car in a 0.8 m deep soft mud pond with little traction on all wheels, and of course I got out successfully with the help of A-TRAC and diff.
3. The A-TRAC function worked normal after I disengaged the diff, turned off the engine, restarted the engine (no light on dash after engine restarted) and run into the same mud pond without engaging diff. The green light of A-TRAC blinked on the dash and the same ABS action sound was heard when I was trying to drive out from the mud pond. I also got out, with the help of A-TRAC only.

Conclusion: the functionalities of A-TRAC and diff are not affected by the problem we all have, that is, an extra light of VSC/TRAC comes on when you engage the diff, and both VSC off and VSC/TRAC stays after you disengage the diff, until you restart your engine.
