I have some spare time on my hands and was thinking of doing some prep work for a future (several months away) vortec 6.0 -4l80e swap...
I would like to clear the front area out including the fenders, radiator core support etc..

What wires/ac lines/etc can I do away with to clean it up to get it ready? Been looking at a multitude of conversions and find it hard to tell....

The engine/trans/transfer are OUT already.....

Well, the carb blower on the drivers side can go.

I don't know how you got the engine out with the radiator and condenser in place but I had to move them to get my engine in.

The a/c lines could be tied out of the way or removed.

Heater hoses. The transmission looks like its still there in the photo. It might get in the way.

Mark the electrical wires - power to the coil, a/c clutch wire, tachometer oil pressure sender. You can use them again.

Clean the grime, it's easiest now. There is a post in my build thread when I did this work, and got things all spiffy. Cleanest it ever was!

Good ideas...thanks... The tranny and transfer case are out, that pic is a few days old. Going with the late FJ60 fully manual transfer case to do away with the vacuum stuff on the FJ62 case...

I think most people tuck the electrical behind the fenders.

Referring to the oe electrics...

My computer is under the back seat and all the engine wires run under the intake and rail to hide them real clean

Here's mine right before the motor went in. I decided to paint the fenders while I was there.

Pull everything coolant and AC related. Radiator, condenser, the top crossmember. You'll re-use two of the AC lines, but no need to keep them in the truck. Pull the fuel lines and heat shields (won't be in the right place anymore). If you pull the power steering gear box, it won't puke fluid everywhere when you move the truck around.

As John said, mark the wire's you'll keep, clean up your harness (or wait until you're sure later on), and then like dbleon said, tuck it behind the fenders.

The more you do now, and the less stuff you have in the way, the easier and faster it will go back together.

That sounds clean. Where'd you pass the harness through?

you need to keep up with the pos and neg wires that connect to the coil, the wire that connects to the a/c compressor, the wires that connect to the alt, batteries and starter. (label them). Keep up with A/C parts until you are finished. remove all the smog crap. Keep notes on how heater hoses were connected. Note where the gas tank vent is on the passenger side of the firewall. Keep all your bolts and stuff from removing thngs. Get a aftermarket p/s cooler and large auto trans cooler. I did not cut any wires expect where a connector was brittle and I had no other choice. I zipped tied up the smog wires on the driver side and they are secured out of the way.

where are you getting the 6.0/4l80E combo from...thats going to be nice...

I have a friend that has a wrecked 2002 Chevy Silverado HD 2500... a few miles (160k) but it has the basics that are needed. $500 for the whole truck is okay with me...

so whatever happened?
