All right. I was going to ask this question to the Tech section of our TLCA magazine but I don't know how soon he can reply... So here it is:
The voltage regulator is giving me problems. some times is allowing 14 volts and some times is letting everything drop to like 9 volts. I've opened the case and fiddle with the contact points to allow me to go back to 13-14 volts but after a while it starts acting up again... so I went to one of those auto store parts and bought me a solid state voltage reg. the problem is that it has a different connector from the one in my truck. what I have is what the LC manual (Hayes) shows: a rectangular connector with 6 prongs. What the new connector has is 6 prongs but in a round connector. Of course the cable colors on the regulator are different from the factory ones... I'm planning on cutting the new connector and replacing it with the old, rectangular one.
The question: Does anybody have the time to take and post a pic on an original Voltage reg. connector that shows which cable is which on that round connector...? This is for a 1982 FJ40 model but I think it is the same for the FJ60... Thanks in advance...

Check here for Solid State replacement Voltage regulators. Look at post 24 for Transpo website instructions.

that's a great web site. unfortunately it doesn't give me what i wanted...
here are some pictures:
the round connector is what the solid state VR has. what i need is what each pin on the round connector is, like the picture from the manual shows...
I can find out which cable is which by the color code of each but the solid state uses different cables...

if you have a 82 FJ40.......the voltage regulator is built into the alt, well not built in but mounted on top of the alt........same as a fj60, new OEM regs are under $30.....might even be $15 from the dealer, I got a new alt and reg for $105 few months ago

this is what a 82 fj40 alt/reg looks like

if your messing with a points style reg.....its from a much older 40

Sorry, I thought you could just buy one with the correct connector and not rewire the one you have.

good mod for the older alts though. I had some funky Dodge solid state reg on my 45 when I got it......worked fine but I replaced it with OEM.......because I had no clue why it was there....;)

that may be true... the manual and the auto parts store says otherwise. Besides, I have a non US truck.
and the firewall does come with the VR mount.
SOOOO, who has this stupid round connector for the Voltage reg????

ah.......non US....makes sense, what market.....that might help

Impoortant question that I'm not seeing asked or answered here... What is the original application for the electronic regulator that you purchased?

No way to even begin to guess about what the wiring might be without that info. Even then you're probably on a bit of a wilde goose chase unless someone has a schematic for that application.

Mark...

the voltage regulator is the one for toyota LC that autozone and it is supposed to be a direct fit if i had the round connector.
