So I was at the drive-thru at Chick-Fil-A a few days ago and it was raining pretty hard.

Got under the canopy thing they have there and water was just pouring down on my arm and onto my main window switch :o

I actually had to grab a jacket just to cover it up while the chick at the window took her sweet ass time getting my grilled nuggets and ice cream cone :bang:

Anyways, the reason for the drip is due to my rack mounts on the gutter rails, so there's no way around it :meh:

I figure Vent Shades would help, but I'd like to know what options I have :hmm:

The standard size vent shades look ok, but I'd like to go bigger if I can...

The JDM shades look HUGE and last time I checked, were hard to come by and quite spendy :(

Are there any medium sized vent shades available?

I have the standard buy-them-at-O'reiliey's vent shades and love them. They've been on there for maybe 6-7 years now.

Not going to go on my 80 due to wheeling in the PNW and don't like them, but will be adding to the 4r for that exact reason. Even using the window sparyers disperse water perfectly on the switch panel :/

Weathertech makes some really nice in-channel visors for the Land Cruiser. A little pricey, but after adding them on our 4Runner, they are much nicer than the cheap fleabay stick-on kind I've bought in the past

My rig actually had these when I first picked her up....

CarMax sent her to my shop for a re-paint and I decided to buy her after taking her home for the night :)

Thing is, I had to send her back so they could finish doing the usual PM work (which took a whole month) and in that time, they removed the shades because they weren't original to the vehicle :bang:

I've been searching and I don't think there are any medium shades, so I'll just go with the regular ones :meh:

The JDM ones are too big and way too expensive

These are the Weathertech brand visors.

I really wish they were thinner like the ones on Jcardona1's 4runner, but these look good too and work well.

One of them on the rear door kept slipping down an inch or so when the window was open, (you can see it sagging a little in the pic) and then it leaked air when the window was back up. I think it was more the fault of the truck than the shades, but a little bead of black adhesive RTV on the upper lip fixed it perfectly to grab hold of the window trim. Now it stays put.

LOL...Funny I just ordered the weather tech package for my 80... I have had weathertech stuff on all my previous rig and love everything I have gotten from them!! Great quality..Not gawdy like some of the stuff I have seen.

I found them on EBay Australia. I was looking through parts on there when I saw this thread

My '96 Hilux Surf and my '91 HDJ81 both had the JDM OEM window vents, they are big, but they work really well. I'd advise against tinting anything larger than the weathertech sized ones as it creates a "blind spot" as you can imagine. My new truck has the JDM ones as well, but appears to have some sort of chrome piping on them that I'm really hoping can be easily removed, as it looks gross IMO.

Any more input on the WeatherTech window vent shades?

How well/tightly/precisely do they fit?

What is required to install them? Do they glue into place, or some sort of strong automotive adhesive, or what?

Any issues installing them, or since installing them?

Thanks!

From the pics looks like it was just in time for the rain lol

What are these things suppsed to do?

Allow you to leave your windows cracked a few inches without fear of rain getting in

Comes in handy here in Orlando where the heat index is 103-105* with daily rain storms :o

Also, if your drip rails are blocked with rack mounts, it will keep the runoff from soaking your window switch while sitting at a drive-thru

They also reduce wind noise and keep you from getting blasted with air if you drive with a window cracked.

Mine came with them and I nearly took them off, I decided to let the brush do the job. 9+ years later, they're still there and I like them. They've been beat to s*** and glued back together several times.

love my cheapies. just pulled them off the marshmallow and remounted them on fat bastard. i like to leave my window cracked while at work to help keep heat from building up. and i like driving in the rain with the window cracked...love fresh air.
