I know The HZJ-76s were as late as model year 2011, but I think the VDJ was only RHD.

We rolled a brand new LHD HZJ-76 out of the back of a C-130 in the 'Stan last year. It was suuueeeettt!

I was told by our Toyota rep - a few weeks back that LHD world would see the crew cab 79 pickup truck before we see a 4.5 twin turbo in the 70 series.

The 4.2 N/A is a pain in the ass for armored cars - and by the time i put the turbo kit and inner cooler on the price is right up there with the G9 spec (and you can get the 4.5 turbo (inner cooler and non-inner cooler versions)

vdjs are only offered to the aus market....

And NZ and probably Papua New Guinea as well. Toyota Australia own the dealership for all those countries

The VDJ isn't that crash hot anyways, a customer of ours has a VDJ79. Bought brand new from our local toyota dealer last year and uses a liter of oil every 1000 km. The local dealer just says that's normal and recommends a heavier oil. Give me a 1HZ any day. At least it would get me home... Eventually ;)

I have been reading its only for 30-40k kms aka the break in period then it changes

Thanks for all if your post, but it is very strange to me that Toyota only sell VDJ76/78/79 in RHD markets, it is a limited market.

I'm driving a HZJ76 with turbo and intercooler from safari, i am happy but want the VDJ. Here is a picture at the dynamometer when we finish the turbo installation.

I think its something Toyota Australia asked to be built for this market, just like its predecessor ,the HDJ78/79
Australia is the biggest market for diesel 70 series and 2nd biggest landcruiser market overall

That really true? Lil ol' Australia burns through diesel Cruisers more'n anyone?

God I love this country.

The Saudis buy more petrol 70 series than anyone else and they are nearly all 70/76 or 79 series .I think they get the occasional troopy.

A couple of years back Australia was getting 10% of all landcruisers and the Saudis were getting 11%

I am not sure, do you know how many 70 series were sold in Venezuela from 1987 until 2009? I bet more than anywhere in the world!

12 HZJ76, 07 FZJ71, 04 FZJ80, 92 BJ73

It says here they made 8000 70 series in Venezuela but Im not sure if it means the total from 1963 to 2006 or thats how many they made in 2006.

It also says here that Australia is the BIGGEST market for the 70 series. Its the Toyota corporation's own site,so I wont argue with that :D

Australia is like a second home for the Land Cruiser. It has been imported there on a serious scale ever since the days of the 40-series, and it is currently the largest market in the world for Land Cruiser 70s. The reason for these strong roots in Australia is the large amount of offroading and sheer size of the continent.

Lol, that is a silly rumor! If they couldn't hit it going forward how would they ever be expected to back up to the shovel to load??
