i am needing to install a new valve cover gasket on my 96 with 135,000 miles on it. How many have had to do this, and are there any tricks to help with the install?
thanks
Steve

I think it's pretty straight forward. I have my gasket and plug seals in a box waiting on a semi warm day.

Mine is due as well. Looks like the damned Valdez crashed under my hood.

Skeddy and I just did this on his 94. Just follow the FSM and you'll be fine. We ended up putting a little locktite blue on the valve cover bolts, as there was a problem with them loosening up.

Took us about 1.5 hours for just the gasket. Total time, with a valve adj. check, new plugs, wires, and cleaning the EGR filter took about 4 hours.

Put a little blue permatex on to keep the gasket in place while you're futzing with the valve cover. Loosen the heater valve bolt (2, 10mm) to allow you to move the hose assy out of the way. Mark the location of the throttle body cable nuts before you loosen them to remove the cables. Don't bother draining coolant before removing the throttle body.

I am also changing the plugs and wires while in there. I was thinking about doing the phh while the valve cover was off does it make that much of a difference with it on or off in doing the dredded phh?

With the valve cover off you can reach down from above as well as going in from the wheel well.
