I've got a lead on these parts down here in Central America. How much are they worth?
There is a slight bend in the rack that will be fixed and a small spot of corrosion on the tailgate that will also be fixed.

Tailgates for the LWB are considered unobtainium; however, not sure how rare that tailgate is for the SWB. My 45 already has the headache rack; however, I am pretty sure that the folks with earlier models would love to have one. (If I remember correctly, the 63-67 era 45 LWB pickups did not have headache racks.)

I sold a FJ45SWB/FJ40 drop gate for around $150 and it needed a lot of metal work, they've been averaging twice that in good shape. I imagine the headache rack could pay a good chunk of your travel expenses. Not going to mention any prices as 45 guys should be on it ..... you can't go wrong with either one.

Headache rack: I paid $150 for mine, but they're probably worth more. Hadley Industries does repros for ~$250?
Tailgate: you can get a new one from Ehsan in Pakistan for ~$350, no dents, no rust, complete with all the chains and latches and hardware, so don't spend more than that...

I bought a perfect condition oem headache rack for $400 last year. Sure I could've gotten the repro for $250, but at the time I was envisioning a full restoration on my 45. If I was to do it again I'd just pick up the repro.

it was an option on all 45LPB's(that be the long beds), there are 2 different styles, one has ears, one does not. Headache racks were not an option on SWB's AFAIK.

the Hadley repro's are nice, Ihave one.

For a nice OEM rack I would pay $250-300, same for the tailgate

Here's a 60s era truck (135 engine) from the literature (before color was invented :) ) with the "eared" rack. Note the light color on the rack. I think they were painted to match the bezel.

they seem to be painted body color, which would mean I guess they were on the truck when it showed up in the US, but the lit shows the headache rack as optional.

There is color early lit..........I happen to have some and of a 45 ;)

Nice lit, John! Looks like it's from after the color green was invented! :grinpimp:

We are making the Headache racks here in Pakistan and they would be cheaper then the ones available there.. Any pics of the repros done in the USA?
Ehsan

I've got a pic of Pimp's rack somewhere, but I think that falls in the 35% category! :flipoff2:

Seriously, Vic told me last summer that IF he made more repros, they would run closer to the $500 range, so an option with Ehsan is certainly something to consider.

A number of years back, I had my hands on a 65 longbed in the factory baby blue color, original paint. The rack was painted to match the truck.

Sold the truck, but I still have the rack. Never put it on my truck. ;)

Well, my rack is an (OEM) Australian that Marv Specter came up with. All of the coats of paint were some version of white, close to the bezel color, and that's all I had to go by. Of course, I have no way of knowing what era it actually came from either. Well, when it comes time to paint, I guess it will become baby blue.

Having a decent headache rack and tailgate sure finishes off the look of these trucks.
