O.K. has this ever happened to you? You are killing some time so you decide to wrench for just a couple of minutes. You decide it is time you checked out that vacuum shift problem and end up three hours later....
Having dropped the tranny and t-case to pull the motor I picked up tools to "inspect" slash test the vacuum shift mechanism on my 3 speed t-case. No workie! O.K. remove assembly from nose cone. PO has cross threaded all four bolts and one breaks. Fawk it deal with helicoil later. Try to remove side cover. Pivot arm rusted solid. (Instert favorite experlative here
) Tons of penetrating fluid, more cussing, bend freaking pivot arm slightly to remove cotterpin from diaphram shaft. Get the SOB apart and spend next two hours getting pivot arm free from side cover, crack side cover (Instert favorite experlative here
) and reassemble using lots of anti seize.
Total time killed 3+ hours and the broken bolt is still in the nose cone. I'm saving that for the next time I have a few minutes to kill.
