Search was impossible to find the answer......at least for me.

How much and what sizes do I need to redo all of the vacuum lines on my 85 FJ 60

Thanks John

I used McMaster Carr part number 5041K52 for the 3mm. I got 40' of it and had maybe 6' left over. Also got 5' or so of the 6mm hose 5041K54 and had plenty left over. It comes in a few colors, I chose blue.

Put loops in the hoses to your BVSV's to avoid breakage. I found that out the hard way:eek:.

I used OEM Toyota that I got from Cruiserdan. There is a cheap way to order it-he can guide you as I forget the details. You do need 1 of the longer and more expensive sections of hose-that one goes to the vac advance unit on the distributor. All the others can be replaced with the short cheap sections.

this drawing has all the lengths needed for the small diameter tubing with the exception of the AC idle up circuit. The lengths are in mm, so convert that to inches or feet. When I did mine 25 ft was not enough, so the estimates of 35 to 40ft seem about right.

I installed the mcmaster carr silicone tubing back in 1999, I think and have been very happy with it. I went to the trouble to use labels for wiring to lable the ends of the hoses so when I take them off, I know which one goes where. I don't have a problem with the labels falling off, but you can see in the picture that sometimes they slip away from the end. They have been on now about 10 years and recently I have started to replace the labels (but not the tubing) because sometimes they break off as I'm removing/replacing the tubing from the ports.

I don't have anything against the OEM tubing, it's just that I think it takes a little more thinking to use it efficiently. Toyota does not sell the tubing in bulk. You buy the pieces at 900mm, 300mm or 100mm--something like that. So if you have a piece of tube that is 140mm, you cut it from a 300mm piece. But that leaves 160mm left over--enough for another 140mm. With bulk tubing you just cut the length from the end and don't have to worry about how to best use the leftovers.

2mbb, do you recall how many feet you used of the McMaster tubing on your smogged rig?

*Oops, I see ButtUgly mentioned about fourty feet.

wow. thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. i am about to replace all the vac hoses and needed the part numbers and total length for the 3mm and 6mm hoses. cheers.

here's a link to the catalog page at McMaster Carr for these hoses McMaster-Carr

Any estimate on the total length needed for a Desmogged rig?

my guess would be maybe 10 ft. less than a stock rig.. maybe more?

Photos at the bottom of the above link. Boostcontroller.com silicone hose in 3mm(red and blue) and 5mm(yellow)

I got 35' of 3mm and 10' of 5mm as per other threads on this site. Other people have gone with 3.5mm, but the stock vac nipple is 3.3mm (per this site as well).

No issues so far. Breaking up the emissions lines into two color sets is cool for visually breaking down the system and seeing 'what goes where'.
