The Toyota V8 diesel has been around for about year or so now and there is the odd problem developing, but nothing too nasty so far.
I thought this thread might interest those who like to follow the new diesel engine as it gathers miles, friends and foes .
I may keep adding other ancedotal stories as they occur or if anyone else hears something
Toyota LC ute New 70 series V8 turbo diesel problems @ ExplorOz

I am coming up to 50 000 in my V8 and did hear this noise once when temps were down around 0 degrees. It was brief and went away.
ARB is an accesory shop!!!

As a friend of mine commented the other night they need another filter. Something along the lines of the D4D Prado type. Failing that a after market may do the job.
Yobbos, hot turbos and water crossing don,t mix which is usually the case from what I have learn't about people driving company cars.

Looks like the bloke was told by Toyota that his injectors or electronic controls are causing the start up noise by passing too much fuel.

I'm interested to find out if the diagnosis is accurate, and replacing some portion of the injection system is the remedy.

Did you see the recommendation by another reader to have his engine oil analyzed? The idea is to read the metal content in the oil for diagnostic purposes. That was a brilliant suggestion we can all employ for maintaining our rigs.

There is an issue here with the Hi Lux and Fortuner engines D4D 1KD-FTV both are developing the weird injection sound at cold start .. much more if you push it hard cold.

Another great story about those new engines are the injectors, that have a coper o-ring in the base with the head, and it start the problem. Toyota recomend change the hole injector that cost 800 USD ea here in Panamá.

Whats wrong with the existing filtration?

Seems to be a problem all over the world. I think a longer warm up time would help

If you look at the filteration on a cab/chassis used commercially ,whether mine or rural and the same year vehicle that is used as a people mover (eg a 100 series).
I have noticed that the 47 series (2h) used 2 paper elements and the sixty used 1 or a screw on type.
On later 75,s (1HZ) miners the paper element was still used and not used on the more residentual cruisers.
They did go back to paper element filters and elimnated the screw on types around the 79 series (1HZ, I THINK)

It would be interesting to cross reference the actual "filter consumnables" parts with relation to the 2H and the 1HZ based upon the the chassis they were fitted into. For example the 60 series and HJ 47/70 series then the 1Hz into the 80/100 series and the 75 series

It is common knowledge that the new v8 is detuned 40% like all cab/chassis. What filtration standard was exported to the different parts of the world could be of interest based upon region. Africa/Aus /Suadi to South America, all different terrains?

I will listen with interest.

I might be wrong but I thought they were still using the old filter and prefilter on the V8,just that they are no longer next to each other like the 75 series

I thought those days less people are prone to wait more time for warm up .. less time around the city to do all thinks and less culture of care of the engine ( the hole car ) ..

Sad .. love those times when the people think in a car for the hole life ..

Prados are the number one soccer moms car(although they are a great 4wd).
They just want to get to the shops so they dont miss the sale,no time for engine warm up:D

Or idling after a hard run .. :( I seen many many turbos cooked those days here in Panamá .. all coming from Prados with the 1KZ-TE

The 2h in a 47 series used the two paper elements yet in a mates 60 series it only had one.
The new has a finned fuel cooler and then the filter. Going off a mates advice (he works on them daily) he recommended the second filter, due to the possible quality of fuel and the high tech side of the motor. One of reasons I can carry 370lts of fuel.
I have seen varying filter setups and filter types based upon the same motor in different models.
