My parents had a 100 series but I didn't like the aesthetics or the ride height system. I've personally driven @azcrackshot's rig before it was complete tuned up and it's a game changer. There is no way anyone enjoys going slow in a 6000lb rig on the highway. That LS3 and the 6-speed is an amazing combination and while I've never put 0-60 times to an 80, it was very impressive to get to speed on the highway before the on-ramp ended. Lane changes were not even a thought much less a well planned strategy that taunts you to full regret when you have to slow for any reason. When my lotto ticket hits, I'm going that route. In the interim, @NLXTACY's turbo is my current target, still outside of reach but the bang for the buck can't be beat. I'm not in the DEQ boat but I have options with my 97 LX. Offroad I'd love to be able to stay in high gear for some really easy stuff that just needs a bit more power to get up a hill without having to go into low gear.

Until I get a house sorted, I'm living vicariously through you guys so keep up the good work!!

Good luck either way and post up what you end up doing! :steer:

The 5.3L is no longer available as an LSx based crate motor. I happen to have purchased one of the last available Last year.

The 5.3L, 6.0L and 6.2L are not about just speed. Its about drivability with today's traffic. I chuckle at the statements "I like my Cruiser slow" BS. Here's a thought, with the swap done you now have the choice to slow down if you want :)

You are right on the mark. I hear just this from prospective customers all the time. I hear "I don't want a new Tahoe, I just want my cool Land Cruiser to run like one. They are also savy and realize that their swapped LC is gaining in value while a new Tahoe is moving in the other direction. I have two customers on the list that have cruisers they bought specifically to have a swap done.

I have my '89 cruiser under the knife now. I am going with the 2010, LS3 with the 6 speed auto. I can't wait to see how "slow" it is. I will also appreciate the added fuel mileage. Should have it back in a week. Will look a little different with the 35's under it!

I will have less that 17k in the swap of the LS3 into my '89 cruiser. That includes the cost of the motor and trans with duel exhaust, mated back into the original transfer case. The swap of this motor has been fine tuned, without any major surprises. I will post pics in a week or so.
