I am almost finished swapping a 91 Chevy 350 TBI with a turbo350 auto tranny and i'm not sure i'm going to like it. Has anyone done this? Likes, dislikes?

A little background on what I have, 74 FJ40, "f" motor, 60 power steering, H41 to 3 speed, Longs, 37" Pitbulls, full custom cage, 103" wheel base, spring over, 4:88 gears.
I mostly rock crawl/trail ride with some mudd

Running a small block 327 to a turbo 400 to a orion!

No issues, body was lifted 1"; rear drive shaft is short but works fine!

Hi all,

Look-up Mad Chemist here on MUD, he is running the same drive train, suspension, etc.

Regards,

Alan

I have a SBC & a T700. When I started to rebuild my 40 I was always going to put an auto in it. I wont go back to a manual off road again.
Yeah the rear drive shaft is short but I have never had a problem. I've had the car on the road for 12 or 13 years now.

The person I got the tranny & t-case from did some mods to the tranny pan, you can kinda see it in the first photo so I am hoping the front driveshaft isn't an issue, It also came with this adapter to a LC t-case, not sure who makes it, Rear driveshaft is only 27.25" long

I've been wheel'n with a 350 (carb'd) and a 700R4 for 10 years. Love it.

Another happy auto wheeler here. I'd suggest setting up a tranny cooler and a tranny temp gauge since heat is the majority killer of autos.

Ya I hooked up the tranny cooler last night, and found out my t-case shifter hits the gas tank:bang:

What are you guys running for shifters? Pic's?

I prefer and LOVE my auto trannies for wheeling.

I absolutely love my 350 700r4 combo. Once I wheeled my son's auto 80, I was converted.

Can you guys post up pic's of which shifter your using? and how you mounted it?

Thank you,

I am changing out my cases, I'm going to a cable shifter setup from NWF for my non cruiser doubler setup. I have a cheap B&M shifter for my tranny, it sucks I'm going to a winter's shifter- old Art Carr design. No pics it ain't done yet.

B&M ratchet shifter. I have a reverse manual valve body sitting on the shelf, but I'm waiting to wheel it a bit before I decide on installing

I also have the B&M shifter, I hear there is a modification you can do to go from drive directly to reverse, in case your in a roll over situation, anyone know how to do this?
