Just got an email from somebody on my K9 SAR team: all Forest Service land South of I40 CLOSED due to extreme fire danger. This includes Cedro Peak Campground, Big Block, Otero Canyon, Tunnel Canyon, the Quarry, and anything else they could find to tape off. No hiking, biking, riding, off roading of any kind...

Pine Flat picnic area and the land around Sandia Ranger Station will remain open.

No mo Cedro til the rains come in....

FS land North of I40 remain open for now.

Wow. Its been a couple months since we've been in the area. I know we are always in a fire danger, but didn't realize that area had reached an "extreme" level.

Does this include MTBs or just OHVs?

When I worked for the FS, "closure" meant nobody anywhere, not even foot powered. Their website doesn't say anything about it yet: Cibola National Forest - Welcome!. If it does close I'm sure the media will mention it heavily, and it will be clearly marked. I'll post up again if I hear anything more.

Where r u biking, FR 462 behind Tablazon? Sure is purty in there, might take the cruiser & explore it this week. Even w/the flat suspension it'll prolly handle better than the rescue I drove up in there yest.

I have no idea what the official name is. I just know how to get to it

It great for biking as some parts get very techincal.

Drop a line if you do. I'm pretty much sitting at home waiting for the company to realize that I still work for them but they haven't given me anything to do (rats!), so I give it an 80% chance that they won't remember me until maybe Wednesday or so, and that's when they'd call to notify me that I'd better go to work later.

If you're going exploring in the cruiser, I'll probably snag the faux lux.

Dan: you've got PM, might take the cruiser up there tomorrow afternoon... CJ
