Uses for the empty space when you get a wheel carrier bumper..??

Perhaps. But I do see a BFG A/T on that rig. And room for storage if there isn't a rider on that hell bike....

Apologies to Patineto, for jackin' his thread....
Hack Up amigo, hack it up all you want...

Check the link on the sidecar posting, I have pictures of sidecars of all kinds..

Check my friends Ara's story, He has being on the road for more than a few years with his little doggie, using the Buckets as storage..

Such a nice guy and a hell of a chef too

Dream Trip!

Too much country, too little time....

When I started my CJ5 build, it was supposed to be a 'retirement vehicle'. I had grandiose plans of buying a motorhome and travelling all over the USA and hitting all the famous trails. Yeah, I probably couldn't do some of the more technical ones, but I was going to have fun none the less.

Like my Jeep build, directions got changed in my life. Now I'm going to have to re-evaluate my bucket list.

Peace, Bro....

Topic wise, I think stashing the extra CV axle (or 2) under there is a fantastic idea!. The things weight a ton and take up way too much space in the vehicle, plus, if you don't lash them down securely enough, they could become deadly. A purpose built water resistant case of some sort would be the ticket. I'm doing it! Thanks for the idea Patineto!
Coming from the world of "do anything" motorcycles, you get used to strapping stuff all over you bike and use whatever space is available..

Yes lower center of gravity need to be address and the laws of provability as well as Murphy's law..

Looking under the truck is so much space under, in between the rails, actually i'm surprise nobody offers "drop down boxes" for the sliders, they don't need to be big or stick down, but hey 5 inches is more than NO inches

Personally I will not go any farther than a pelican case, bulletproof stuff, just don't drill it out, much to cheesy, think of it as a challenge.

Can you imagine 4 palican;s of the exact same size, one on each color so you can identified them at a glance, man I'm going to steal my own idea....

Other tip..

Bicycle toe straps are a fantastic way to strap small things, very dependable and easy to release..

Many moto guys use Zipties, man they poke so hard when you hands are wet, then you need a way to cut them and have spares to reinstall whatever you took, toe straps will last for years and they are cheap since most people ride clipless.

Look for Nylon straps with a nice "Head"

Tomorrow is one less day you did not follow you path, just remember that..

Bucket list, I have no bucket list, I already did all i want to do (realistically)

Ara has so many friends and followers he "Trades" roof for cooking, but the best is to find him in the middle of nowhere and enjoy his company and a meal, the dude is a angel..

Well, I hope I can do a few more things before I start pushing the dandelions up (I've sinned too much to push up the daisies).

I'm sure he is. I've met lots of fine people in my life. Hope to meet more. Lot's of good people on this forum. That's why this Jeep guy hangs out here....

The 100 frame rails are a bit wider than the 80. If the exhaust resonator is rerouted/removed, you could probably fit 3-20L cans across.

I'm looking at it as I type

Plenty of space to carry clumsy items you don't use much

First things first to finish my tire carrier..

Actually I'm going to make him one better..

I'm going to make a 'four bar'' linkage so one set of arms is connect to back pivot point on the truck and the forward part of the 'tray/basket/nest'' that way the basket will be totally visible and accessible and in plain view (kind of under the bumper) instead of half hidden and up There (plus the parts/luggage is always horizontal [well parallel to the chassis of the car] and unmolested..

Kind of like this but not really and view upside down.

I think a 4gallon rotopax would tuck away nicely in the spare location- attaching the rotopax directly to the carrier brace/bar. Two 4gal sandwiched together would still be lighter and lower profile than a tire. Not much chance of bottoming it.

A man after my own hard

Rotopax the bling of the bling hidden away..

I like it.

Fuel or water storage would be best. Maybe some long term survival gear.
I have this strange tradition of helping people in need on the side of the road (on bicycles and motorcycles, even Harley's) sadly I don't know much about cars, but I guess I can start to collect my assortment of tools for ''just in case"'

Up, I forgot AAA but then again they don't get on trails much..

For now MRE's, seal water bottles (for other people) spare old tent, thermarest, recovery gear, heavy clumsy tools and spares that can fly over the cabin under braking.

I run two spares. The spare in the stock location is a bit bigger than the stocker, but not the same as the other 5 295/75's.

Why two...??

Murphy's law..?

I do have two sets of wheels, but when I change them, I swap the spare too

The desert is not nice.....I wheel with different people and learn from their mistakes and misfortunes.....and when I am in a jam and they produce some handy tool, device, etc., I'll get one for myself. I've seen to many people need two spares (no plugs would fix the problem). Now add in going out by yourself....Eventually I'll get an aux tank made, and then start wheeling with my buddy that has a tundra (and the same bolt pattern rim lol)

I like that. I was raised to always stop and offer aid when we saw anyone on the side of the road, that is still with me. I often give away spare parts and stuff like oil and gas. The reason I wouldn't carry spares in the OEM tire compartment is because you may not be able to access them when you need them example: you are buried in mud and break an axle. You are sideways in a rock garden and blow out your power steering pump. Fuel and water can be accessed through hose connections, if you need long term survival stuff you have time to dig it out.

2 spares:
-have a tire problem "out there", spare put on. Now the anxiety sets in of "what if" (has happened to me in Baja).
-Have read that second spare is a waste of weight/space by long term expo veterans.

Of course, if we were all savvy enough to have 1) knowledge, 2) skill, 3) strength to debead/repair/rebead, the anxiety problem would be solved (kinda-sorta).

Me, going the 2 spare route as I'm 1) lazy, 2) spend my time doing other stuff more preventative on the cruiser (like cool mountain bike rack)
