Yesterday was driving in the 100 back to Katy from a day trip to San Antonio when we spotted an ambulance on the side of a lonely stretch of hwy and EMT's setting out hazard triangles. We pulled over and two of the three medics frantically begged us for a ride to the nearest fuel station. A rookie EMT was driving while the other two tended a burn victim as they were headed to a burn unit in Houston when the rookie driver ran out of diesel. We rushed them to the closest diesel pump and then back to the stranded ambulance where the third EMT waited with the patient. Funny enough, when I crossed the grassy median to get back to their ambulance, they were worried I'd get stuck in my triple locked 100. Just another fun story of a 100 helping someone out. Granted a Prius would have worked just as well, except for the median crossing part.

Ryan: guilty :)
Bardiya: I think someone else posted here a few winters ago that they almost used their 100 to transport a patient here in the U.S. during an ice storm that disabled an ambulance. I remember reading about that. But yeah the 100 would make a pretty nice emergency transport.

Great job!! I would have smack that rookie EMT in the forehead for running out of fuel while transporting a patient.

I honestly am assuming his head is gonna roll at this point based on my limited conversation with the other two veteran medics that rode with me. Kinda a serious mistake to make when you have a burn victim in transport.

Honestly sharing a ride was easy. Any of us here would have done it.

Good job Muddy bean. Kinda crazy both the vets went on the fuel run and left the rook to attend the patient? Hope all are ok. Mistakes happen learning from them is key!

I think the smart thing to do would have been to just tell the patient they were having mechanical issues with the ambulance and were trying to solve them. The moment she knows they ran out of fuel, there's gonna be lawsuits. I hope the rookie was using his head while he waited with her in the back.
