Urgent problem, out of town with t-case problem

It's the CV axle at the drive flanges. I had my wife pop it into drive for a quick second, and can clearly see the axle spinning in the stationary flange on the driver's side.

I'm glad it's not something worse. Should I still disconnect stuff for the drive home? Or just leave the cap off and let it do whatever slight spinning it might do?

I'd put cap on and drive. Keep in mind this happen because wheel bearing not set up and maintained properly. I'll bet your bearings are loose and you now have metal particles in the bearings. Keep speed down and pay attention to sound and feel (no radio). Alone I'd chance the drive home, with family in truck I'd fix first. Or use rental car as chase vehicle.

Disconnecting front propeller shaft if you find it necessary to drive with CDL on, would be good idea. But I have driven with CDL on, on dry pavement.

Just a thought. You may find it easier in the field to remove snap ring and hub flange of good side. Your bad side (DS) is already spinning free this would allow both fronts to spine free. That way you'll not risk transfer case damage form CDL (on) being locked.

^^^ Yes, this is the way to go. To stop any bit of grinding, why not remove both flanges on passenger and driver side flanges? If possible remove the front Drive shaft from both ends so nothing in the front is spinning.
Glad the fix is simple. Hope you know how to replace the flange. If not, just break loose the 12 mm bolts and turn few rounds to left (don't take it off the nut yet) Hammer the side of the flange where the V-shaped cone is resting. With few light beatings, the V0shaped cone will pop out. Make sure that you don't damage the wheel studs during this process.

I'm in Thomasville GA about 30 min north of you in Tallahassee. I have done a fairly built 80 series and have done a lot of work on my 100. We have a Landcruiser group here and there is a local mechanic who specializes in landcruiser. That is pretty much 95% of what he does. He mainly does 70 series but is rebuilding my wrecked 80 and is going to help with some mods on my 100. He may be a help sometime if needed. PM me if you are interested in his number. He knows a ton about landcruisers. There are several 60 guys from Tallahassee who bring their rigs to him. He is currently doing a frame off on a 70 series, and has built multiple 70 series as well as recently a 77 that is awesome.
