My phh broke off what I assume is the heater throttle body (which came off in pieces) can I just plug the hose with a nipple and cap, refill coolant and drive home 20 miles to fix it tomorrow?

You could connect the blue hose to the other hose feeding the heater valve, then you could keep heat. Your heater valve broke, the blue hose is referred to the FHH
Should be fine other than create air bubble in the heater core if left how it is and you will have no heat.

Sounds & looks like your heater control valve is original. Hard to see in the picture, but left hose/clamp look original as well. Those two things alone signal that you may want to go through the entire cooling system, as I'm sure many other things are original. Good idea to stick to quality rubber hose, not silicone.

If it were me, I would bypass the valve and connect the two hoses for now, as suggested above.

Thank you guys so so so much! I was able to connect both hoses, luckily I live in LA so heat wasn’t an issue. My coolant temp never rose above 193 and I stopped ever 5 miles to check/top off coolant levels. I have driven this baby about 5000 miles in the last 4 years so I suspect it needs a bit of a look through before I sell it
