Anyone out there running this setup? How big in diameter is the wire they use? Might try to make some. Ordered some 2/0 wire and it seems HUGE. Think it is about .5 in diameter. Is that right?

I obtained one of these kits from DD/ULC this last summer; all the pieces were well made and installed easily; not sure about the braid replacing the starter-to-ground wire, but it works fine...just seems primitive. Buying them ready made suited me 'cause I didn't feel like spending tedious hours manufacturing cables.
Be aware that 2/0[also known as "two-ought" or "00"] size cable is a different size... much larger in diameter... than #2[aka "2 gauge"] cable....#2 is what the ULC cables use on the big draw lines...#2 is good for something like 120 amps or more continuous. Maybe try to return that 2/0 and get some #2 instead?

I use his cables. I also have made a bunch of my own for my dual battery setup. His are great. My truck had some funky wiring, and I wasn't sure what stock setup was in terms of ground wires esp. Turned out that I was missing some...so even though I paid more than if I made them myself, I wouldn't have known I was a few wires short (nice pun?). Peace of mind was worth just a few extra bucks to me. I gotta say though, that making your own is kinda fun...

Maybe I don't follow you...here is what the site says:

" We build the best battery cables that you can have. The cable is marine grade, multi stranded flexible 2 ought. "

So does that mean 2/0 or #2? Always thought 2/0 was called 2-ought, so that is what I bought.

I made my own - easy and kinda fun. Not too tedious and it was relaxing after a long day at work...

I've heard nothing bad about ULC's cables, but if you have the time and inclination I say make 'em yourself.

I just ran out and checked the ULC cables installed in my 60. Guess what? WE'RE ALL WRONG! The big cables coming off the batt are 1/0! According to the table in the Wrangler catalog, 1/0 is capable of carrying 225 amps@14v. continuous in a 10 foot length. Overkill, but it can't hurt anything. Sorry I was inaccurate in my earlier post...I'll chastize myself later.

Well, good. That is what I ordered. Their website said 2/0. I thought that seemed kinda big, so I went down a size. Right now I am in the project 70 bucks. Good project for Thanksgiving break. We'll see. Thanks for the info Pluton. One more question, you mention the "big cables" I assume you mean the starter and the ground?

I just installed Dearborn's cables Saturday on my 62. He makes a very nice set of wires. Trying to fit the short battery to fender cable was a little tough on my truck b/c I have some other stuff right there, it's a little crowded, quick modification of the battery support and all is good.
Could've made my own but no time and mine would not have been as well done.

"Big cable" would be the starter and ground, yes sir. Some of the others(frame to transfer, etc) are smaller.

Pluton would you mind measuring the diameter of wires on the "Big" stuff? The pictures that urban landcruiser has and what I am using look to be different sizes. Just want to be sure before I get crazy.

Big wires measure 14mm(including insulation, sorry no exposed sections to measure conductor diameter), or just under 9/16".
Wire says:"Genuine Cable and Power size 1/0 105C Marine/Automotive SAE J378C/J1127" and then the red says:"><092 FT" and the black says "><013 FT"
Don't know what those last color-specific designations are. Hope this helps...
