It's a run!

Saturday 4/24:
7:30 am meeting at Cottonwood Canyon Rd entrance off the 79. We will be running Upper Woodpecker and depending on how quickly we get through that we may shoot over to Upper Ajax. Right now it looks like 4 J**ps and my Cruiser. Let me know here if you're interested in going. It would be good to get some Cruisers out on the trail.

FYI for those who don't know. Both of these trails are rated at a 3+ or a 4 depending on who's rating them. We've gotten many stockish trucks through both of them but sliders and at least a rear locker are recommended. Upper Wood pecker has bypasses to all of the obstacles and Upper Ajax has a couple of mandatories that aren't too bad. Body damage is a possibility on both trails but not mandatory. If you're up for it let me know.

I can also set up a pre-meet at my place South of the 60 at Signal butte for those who don't know where Cottonwood Canyon rd. is. We could all caravan out from there.

Actually I live at Meridian and Elliot but you have to exit at Signal Butte to get there.

Anybody getting in on this action?

not me, i dont feel like drivin across town for more boring rock crawling :flipoff2:

seriously i think i'm gonna go fishin on the verde somewhere, maybe the back side of horseshoe lake/sheeps bridge area.

we might... still juggling a few ideas for the weekend.

we haven't been on woodpecker in a few years, inforget what sectiuon is what. are you taking the highway to hell section? or the v section??

We'll start at the bottom, near Mneral Mtn Road and we'll jump out at the entrance to H2H. Then, depending on the time we may head over to Upper Ajax, or just a leisurely exit out Box Canyon past all the crazies at Crunchy Blunder.

Now that sounds like a good plan-- what can you catch there? Sheeps bridge is a cool place.

Have you every been to Red Creek and Verde? Better go soon, before the FS closes that one as well.

Alright, we made the run and what a good one it was. My truck did great, except for the whole melting and ARB line and the leaking fuel thing. It was a real treat to pull into the staging area and see Lee (accasbel) and his wife (who's name completely escapes me right now) and their 2 beautiful Ridgebacks in their 62. Also on for the run was John and Larry in John's 87 Cherokee, Brian in his '03 Rubicon, Kyle, Justin and Suzanne in Kyle's CJ-8 Scrambler and Brett in his 02 Taco Quad Cab. We had some quick intruductions while airing down and a few of the rigs headed in to get off the trust land. We met up with everyone and headed in. It was John's maiden voyage for his Cherokee, this truck did very well for being open on both ends. I was thoroughly impressed with Lee's 62 also. It was my first chance to wheel with a wagon and I liked what I saw. The trail was realatively uneventfull with no breakage and only a few small problems with my 40 and John's XJ. Someone said it right on the trail when thay said "That's why they call it a shakedown run".

I just wanted to take this chance to let you guys know it went down well and I wanted to also thank Lee for coming out to wheel with a bunch of Heep guys.

Yeah! Where are the pics?
Can't have a run that some of us couldn't make and not take pictures. :D

The weather was awesome, the people were friendly, and the trail entertaining. What more could one want??
