What are folks doing to upgrade the windshield wiper arm/blades for their 1970 40's ?
Mine only came with one arm, no blade in a box with some other parts as the mounting stud is stripped and currently have the motor/wiper assembly apart to clean, regrease . Ready to reinstall and I see replacement arms are around $45-$55 a piece.
I don't need OEM. What are some other options or vehicle applications that fit ?

Think I've seen VW Bug arms of the same vintage work. Might look at VW parts.

Thanks for the tip !!
VW arms work like a charm and can't beat getting two arms for $18, that accept conventional c clip blades !!
*edit
Part numbers, year/model VW few post down.

How well do they cover the windshield (what's the radius, motor shaft to blade tip)?

Thanks.

Cover it completely .
I slapped a C-13 Rain X blade which is 13" as that was shortest they had in stock and it's just a hair to long. Each end rides up onto the windshield rubber at the bottom on the stroke and at the top, at rest.
I could probably adjust the top out by moving over a spline or two but it doesn't make no never mind to me to run them as is.

Excellent. Thanks.

Little visual for you..
I was half heartily talking about cutting the arm down 1/4" and TIG'n them back together before sticking them on and sure would be about perfect with the 13" blade..But I'm good to go with them as is and won't mess with them. Especially when didn't have any wipers prior to this lol

Where it gets a little bumpy/squirrelly there at the bottom of the sweep on both sides is where the blade runs over the windshield rubber gasket. Im guessing a 12" blade VS the 13" currently on there would eliminate that . Maybe next time I'm in town an pass by the parts house I'll snag up a set and see.

It looks like the arm needs a small bend to change the angle when it reaches the A pillar

Yeah, I tried going this route, but the angle is the wrong direction & prefer to have arms that set horizontal with the top of windshield.

And I thought this thread was a goner... :D

So I will ask, has an even better solution been identified?

I’ve been tempted to look up the Trico P/N off the wiper arm and see if there are different applications it was used for.

OEM design doesn’t have it parallel to the top of the windshield or side... but instead splits the difference.

I went this route...

The wiper blades are ok... I replaced with Bosch and work great... don’t have the number for the new blades
