are there any upgraded brake kits for the 80 series landcruisers? i know with a tank like this, you can use every bit of help in improving stopping force.

:)

Use the search function. You will find many threads discussing this.

100 series pads and a thorough look at all your brake components, a good flush/bleed of the fluid, SS brake lines. All these will get your system up to speed, a properly tuned/adjusted '92 system locks up 38.5 Boggers so if you have the larger 93+ system with rear discs then you shouldn't be lacking in braking performance especially with 35 or smaller tires.

If you look around you can find Brembo Rotors for about $100 a set (normally about $400 a set) they seem to have made a lot of them and are clearing them out.. you can also find EBC green stuff brake pads that work awesome with the Brembo rotors.. add these to the other suggestions about a flush and stainless lines.. Make a HUGE difference when your done..
Rotors front $120 ish
Rotors Back $ 150 ish
pads around $ 100 for 2 sets. One set will do both front caliper
lines are around $130

Check Ebay they get the Brembo fronts often, the back you may need to work a little harder to find..
good luck..

Im surprised nobody has mentioned DBAs Aussie brakes. They were in a later issue of 4WD Toyota Owner on an 80. I have heard nothing but good things about them.

DBA's

I've hat the DBA's rotors and pads on for the last three years with excellent results! Minimal pad wear during the 20k + miles I've had them on.

Lockd97,

Besides longer pad life, have you noticed shorter stopping distances or other improved performance using the DBA's?

Yup, the 7000 series EBC's are the only way to fly.
Also, stay with solid, vented rotors, no crossdrilling.
Solid's the only way to fly also ;)

BTW, I drove a '94 FZJ 80 this weekend (having just started looking for an '80) and that beast would stand on it's nose when the brakes were applied. No problem stopping that one at all.

I don't get why everyone is all weird about brakes. I have stock brakes: OEM 80 series pads, OEM calipers, OEM rotors.

My rotors are almost 4 years old, they're warped a little bit, and they squeak like hella. I haven't bled the brakes in the 25k miles I've driven my Cruiser since owning it. I'm not sure when they were bled before then.

I've changed the front pads twice, and the back pads once.

I stop like a champ. There have been a lot of times when I've had to slam on my brakes, but not one time, even while tailgating someone has the stopping power been an issue with my 80.

OK, lift it, put on some 35" tires and add another 1500lbs of accessories and gear and see how well that champ stops.

Yes, there was an immediate improvement over stock with 295's. I'm really happy with the setup.

A lot of people on this board say stay away from crossdrilled rotors for this or that reason. I personally have run them for years on my Tacoma and I have them on the Cruiser as well with no issues that I have read here. There is plenty of sand and rocks around this area for the opportunity of foregin material to get caught into the crossdrilled holes nor anywhere else that I have wheeled. Just my experience and $.02
