UPDATE
Ok so i am still crossing my fingers that i have got everything sorted. The most stupidly bizarre thing occurred. The bolts on the new bearing had basically backed out and were hitting the back of the wheel studs. But, this was on the passenger side only. Which explains why it made noise on left turns because the bolts would slide out and hit the turning hub.

This does not explain why i felt and heard the noise coming from the driver side. I cant really explain it. Everything is back together and all torqued correctly. I have only driven 20 miles or so but i think i got it all figured out.

Hello,

So I recently joined up. Got an 04 that I installed lift, new preassembled blue pit bearings, new front 460 calipers & rotors, new CVJ high angle boot axles. New outer tie rods and end links as well.

I have some clicking/grinding/popping coming from the driver's side. At first I attributed it to rubbing from the 285 duratracs. Well I did all the trimming needed and installed spidertrax 1.25 spacers and the noise has not gone away. I have searched my a** off and cannot figure out what is going on here. I even uninstalled everything on the drivers side and reinstalled thinking something was wrong. Bearing is good and tight, no movement. Axle is solid no slack or noise at all. The noise mostly happens on acceleration and is worse when turning left. Does not make the sound turning right at all. I checked everything I could and nothing is rubbing. Dust shield has plenty of clearance. Everything is tight as possible. I contacted CVJ and they mentioned maybe the front diff bearing? How do I check it? Any thoughts on something else it might be?

If you're able to, put the front end on jackstands and rotate tires by hand; and have a helper turn the steering wheel while you continue rotating tires by hand. In this case, you're not so much listening as you are "feeling" for abnormalities. If/once you feel some dragging or something popping, you can zero in from there.

Just a swag, but it does sound a bit like a CV. When you rebooted, I guess you cleaned then up well and examined them? (your post gives me the impression you know what you're doing, but just wanted to ask)

I havent tried that yet. Thanks for the suggestion. I am not an expert by any means, but it isnt my first rodeo. Lol.

The axles are actually brand new oem remans from CVJ. They are highly reputable and it is pretty unlikely to be the cvs, but it very well could be. I did encounter something new last night though. At full lock in a slow turn there is sort of a scraping metallic sound. It really sounds like the rotor, but the other day when i disassembled everything there is not a single mark on anything that could be scraping. Nothing on the dust shield. Nothing on the rotor, caliper, rim, frame, nothing. It is just so weird.

Could be a wheel bearing

Brand new blue pit bearings both sides. No play in them at all. I put all my strength into trying to get the wheel to move. Im 6-2, 215 pounds. Got nothing. Im going to tear into it again today. Just had to replace the cats on my 2000 4runner. Had to make sure we have at least one correctly operating vehicle. Lol.

Ah, I didn't realize you had remans from CVJ, I'd agree it's likely not the cv then.

Did you save your old bearing units? Might not hurt to try one, there is a possibility something isn't 100% with the Blue Pit (which I also have and they've been fine).

Good luck with this and keep us posted, very curious problem here....

Unfortunately I did not keep any of the old stuff. At 208k miles all original suspension I didn't think there was a point. The old axles were not making noise, but the boots had been long gone. There wasn't any play in the old bearings, but they were rusty inside and I got such a good deal on the rig that I wanted to just get new everything up front and be done. I didn't get the time to work on it yesterday, hopefully I do today.

Ok so I think I may have found the problem. My brand new 460 calipers have stuck pistons. So maybe they came crappy or maybe I ****ed up bleeding them. A rebuild is simple enough, but also I'm going to get stainless braided brake lines. It could be that I messed up the lines when I held them shut to keep the fluid from leaking while replacing everything up front. I also clearly nicked the inner axle seals as both of them are just barely leaking. Wish me luck.

Well it looks like stainless front lines aren't really needed for 470s. I'm going to get regular replacements.

True. They don't really get stretched.

Glad you found the problem, great work!
