Hi everyone,

I just got my renewal notice for the 40, and they want $100 more per half year (on a policy of $250 for 6 months) :frown:

when I got the cruiser, they offered what they claimed to be a discount based upon the fact that certaople with good credit rating have fewer claims - but now they supposedly experienced unfavorable history in AZ

anyone have a lead on more affordable insurance?

I appreciate any suggestions

Thanks in advance

Geico

I used geico as compared to AAA and it saved me almost 420 dollars for the year. It was easy all done on the internet. Love that damn internet. I dont work for them just so were on the same page.

Claudia,

I'm with Farmer's (however, I DO have the house and all of the other vehicles with them), and my premuim for 6 months for the FJ40 is only $103.

GEICO been berry berry good to me...

I've had good luck with Allstate, My father was a claims adjuster for them and our agent is a friend of the family.

(Tell 'em it's a two door Toyota, Maybe you'll get the economy car discount);)

Call State Farm and tell them I sent you. They really like me!

Call them all.

If you can manage, do try and stay away from the Geicos and Progressive carriers. They are in profitable higher risk markets vs more prime carriers like American Family and State Farm, etc.

They will run your credit down with frequent checks and price their products to discourage high deductible, liability-only, high-limit coverage (which you should have). They also will encourage making a claim to move you into claim history for further margin. It's not a bad thing if you need them, it is just their business model. I would try for the prime carriers first.

Christina used Allstate for two years on her old vehicle. When we called about the 97 Cruiser they quoted her $100/month. Two days later she called to change something unrelated and they told her that the agent she had been dealing with was gone and that the coverage for the cruiser would be ~$175 a month. Annoyed she called around and found that State Farm had the same coverage for $95/month.

I can't speak to either company's claims handling but State Farm hasn't tried to screw with us yet. It could have just been that Allstate office. We've since moved the apartment and ring insurance over to State Farm with no issue.

update:

so far, a flippy young Allstate dude who had no idea what an FJ40 is ("2 drs or 4 drs?" - "2 when I don't have them out ;p") quoted me something like $750 for a year (and that was with his "it's restored, isn't it"-discount); a young American Family lady was giddy to offer me $74 per month  (while claiming that was cheaper than the $335 that 21st Century wants for 6 months  - go figure), and Progressive was outrageous at $471/half year over the web...........

you get the picture

still calling around..............

plus, despite living in Omaha, no Berkshire stock ever made it my way :frown:

I had Geico for several years and was fairly satisfied, but then learned about their business model from a friend in the biz. Found out I was still paying too much. I recently changed over to Liberty Mutual, but State Farm and Farmer's both offered pretty good rates. One caveat -- I was searching out a company that covered my home owners and automobiles.
