Any chance on you carrying the cowl drain hoses that go from the cowl vent through the transmission hump on either side of the front heater?

I've been thinking about making it actually. I just ordered a set of those hoses so I can have a look at it. It could be a good complement to the cowl vent gasket that I will be introducing in a couple of weeks. @antFJ will be trying it on his truck pretty soon; here's what the gasket looks like:

I don't have a working cowl vent but will that gasket just around the edge trap water? Does that one with the full side sit on top so water will not pool?

The blue side is top (facing upward) and the black side is facing down. Gasket on the top side is even with the blue surface, so it won't trap water. Gasket on the bottom side protrudes downward so that it can seal against the rectangular opening beneath it. Here's what that opening looks like (courtesy of Coolerman):

Seems like to me even though the middle section is raised, there will always be a little gap between the gasket and the beveled section of the raised middle. If the full side of rubber was facing up, any water on top would spill to the sides and there is no little gap. Maybe I'm just not understanding this thing. Good thing mine is not operable lol:

oh wait now that i'm seeing it on a computer vs. my phone i get it now. disregard (although i still think a little water would be caught in that tiny gap)

In practice I doubt it'll be an issue. If you look throughout your car, you can find plenty of little gaps where water can potentially hide after a rain shower or car wash (e.g. door gaps, hood gap). It'll evaporate pretty quickly. I think Mr. Toyoda must have thought about that when he originally designed it.

So what does it look like when there is no operational vent? Is it welded shut? You still have those drain hoses to route water out of the vent area correct?

Yes, I have the vent holes - I used bicycle tube for my drain hoses instead of the expensive fancy schmancy ones. It looks like it has that vent but yes it is sealed shut.

It looks like we've got another lost product soon to be available again. It passed the cup of water test and all the water went through the hoses to the floor.

There is adjustment up and down. You'll want to use a flashlight up from underneath to make sure both sides are even.

The last picture shows the slotted holes in the assembly.

Thanks to antFJ for helping with the test! As they say, proof is in the pudding...or in the cup of water. The gasket certain looks more at home on his truck than on my crappy sample vent!

Can someone please post the metric dimensions of the L shaped piece in the following photo? My sample floor mat doesn't have that piece.
Is there a particular reason that piece is not directly part of the floor mat?

Man, that vent gasket looks awesome! Too bad I was able to acquire one last year. I would have bought that in a heartbeat!
When/if you make the hoses I will take a set of those! Maybe trade you a fog light harness...:D

I just noticed that the mat you are using for reference has the cut out for the drainage hoses. Would you produce the mat without the holes for the hoses for other models?

That one is actually not my sample. I used that photo because it has the corner piece. My sample is as shown below (sorry, taken on a rainy day...). It doesn't have holes at those 2 spots, but it does have a couple of cuts. I can certainly go without the cuts, if that works for most folks.

There's another cut in the lower center (circled below) that I've seen on just about every floor mat. Should that one stay or go?

I assume the other cutouts (pointed to by arrows) are all desired. If anyone disagrees or sees any other anomalies, please speak up now!

I believe they all have those cut outs. Mine does and it's from a 9/77 so no drain tubes. Mine also has snaps in those places that I'll snap some pictures of this evening.

All those cutouts look good to me - the only one I'm not certain on is the lowest one on the hump part...

Otherwise all are accounted for - most for chair frame mounts. Outer ones are where the door frames.

Excited for this project!

looking forward to these ... personally, I could do without the tab you've circled and the V shaped slit you circled in the pic above ... if I really needed it I could cut the slit into the mat ...
