I swear i remember someone many moons ago on here mention that he purchased a ultrasonic cleaner for jewelry and medical equipment that he used to clean his fuel injectors. Does anyone remember that thread?

Can anyone refresh me on if that was a good or bad idea? AFAIK it was a great, cheap way of cleaning injectors. I know they are not flow tested before/after like if sent off, but Indoor - Haier Ultrasonic Jewelry Cleaner ( HU380S ) (Haier) - eCOST.com - electronics, computers, laptops, mp3 players for that price i'm thinking that if three of us cleaned our injectors that knocks our cleaning price down pretty cheap.

opinions?

Some things to think about it you don't have them professional cleaned and balanced:
(a) They are about 7 or 8 percent out of balance when new. If you clean them back to new finish, they are still 7 or 8 percent out of balance.
(b) If you merely run a can of injector cleaner in a tank of gas (I'm told this actually does work), you are not back-flushing, consequently loose particals can remain in the injector
(c) Cleaning and balancing not only includes bringing your injectors into a percentage of 1 percent balanced, but it also includes complete rebuild with new orifices and o-rings.
Bottom line; do what you can afford to do!!!!!

Cody Motorsports of GA does all my injector cleaning. For 6 of them I believe it is only $60 or 80. This includes replacing any parts, cleanging them, flow testing/spray patterns on them (with flow sheets). Ask for Chuck... he is the owner and only guy there :) Nice old guy.

The website kind of sucks :)
CODYMOTORSPORTS

His machine reverse pressure cleans them better than any stupid ultrasonic jewelry bath cleaner machine.

Ultrasonic cleaner

I used the Ultrasonic cleaner from Harbor Freight. Got it on sale for $29. It is the same one that I see in Jewelry stores for $65.00. I used Seafoam to clean the injectors. Napa has the o ring set for $1.89 a set. Everyone else was $6+ dollars for a single set. You need six sets. I did the whole thing for less than $20.00. (allready had the sonic cleaner). I spent alot of time cleaning out the plenium and throttle body. The whole process is very time consuming. If you have the extra cash, go ahead and send it to the professionals. I used the difference and purchased a dual battery setup from reffug(used) I have the best of both worlds a cool new mod and a truck that runs better than ever. All for the same price.

Ultrasonic cleaning can take off some pretty tough stuff, though I have no idea where in the range of powerful to weak a jewelry cleaner would be. Dentists use them to take tough calcified plaque off our teeth every day.

I've played with lots of junk yard injectors and cannot figure out the "balancing". Can someone clearly explain how in the world you balance solenoid injectors such at the Toyota units? I just see nothing to balance, either it clicks open to spray or it doesnt. There isn't any adjustment in a solenoid.

that was kind of my thought as well. I was thinking the only real way to adjust the amount of "squirt" is by changing out either the tip (like changing out the tip on a pressure washer), or the amount of fuel being applied to the injector. So the latter isn't really an adjustment or balance on the injector either.

I thought about the jewelry cleaner method because for that price i can get a ultrasonic cleaner machine to clean injecotrs on the cruiser and my car. As well as other items i tinker with on the truck that are small and could be tossed in the cleaner as well.

You can not balance the Asian injector(at least the model used in most of toyota product line), neither can RC(talked with them back when I was with Slee) or any other cleaning company(even the one I use now). The balancing takes place when the guys grab the injectors off the shelf. Cleaning them gets them back to the original state there were in before being run in a engine for many years. Anyhow the one company in GA is real reasonable for cleaning. I do not know about ultrasound if it clean well enough or not.

Interesting. So the "balancing" that they mention is a myth. Pulling out my receipt I don't show this as an actual line item (balancing) so that makes sense. However, mine flowed at between 72 and 75 before servicing and all at 77 after servicing. YMMV...
