Go to Galls on the internet. They supply most of our LEO/First Responder type needs. I believe they have a top notch kit for a couple hundred bucks. ( I second your motion)

Watching the news here just after typing the above post and the story is about honoring two locals here who each saved a child's life with CPR.

There ya go......

Great idea. You can never be too prepared.
I keep a field surgery kit and a waterproof first aid
box in my truck. EVERY truck should have a basic first aid kit
on board and a comprehensive Club kit is spot on!
Heck Mercedes includes a nifty kit with EVERY car.
Cruisers should too.

I don't know what our dues are used for, but I'd be willing to chip in a little more for the club to have at least two Wilderness First Responders.

Hypothetical:
UC could pay for two officers every year unless one or both is already certified. In that case we could offer the scholarships to two other members. Eventually, most of the club is certified and every ride has more than one responder.

This is something I've been planning to do for a few years...excuses.

Great idea Marshall, and I'd really be interested in taking some first-aid/CPR classes myself. I need to be refreshed and learn a lot more.

Good to go. Thanks for the link.

Did some searching and was going to go for an Adventure Medical Guide kit. But then looked at the Gal's site and did some review searching. Great stuff and will last a long time.

Got this for the club. In red of course.

Should last us a good long time with care.

Dyna Med® Modular BLS XTRA Kit - TK031 : Galls

We should have it for Cullowhee. Just another perk of being with UC.

If you guys let me know what you settle on I can use our medical office status to help get the best deal- I think this is a great idea and would be willing to also chip in to make it happen.

Thanks for the offer but it arrived today. Will take you up on refills and other things we might need.

I will say that this thing has just about everything you could need. I do see a few things that might be needed but not much. Pretty humbling to see everything and hope that we never have to use it. I checked on classes at Greenville Tech. They have a class that would be perfect for using this kit. 55 dollars. It's 8 hrs long and offered on Saturdays. I think it would be good to see if we could pick a date and have a big group of us go to it. This would be something we all could use.

Who wants to head up this?

Also it would be a good idea to get one of those defibulators....don't know what they cost but some of the ads I've seen they look pretty easy to use.....plus then we wouldn't need to use a set of jumper cables and a battery.....much more controlled voltage in my opinion.

Who wants to head up this?

I'll do some checking on it. I'll use my connections with the Boy Scouts.

What are you looking for? CPR, general first aid, or something like the wilderness first responder I mentioned above?

The Defibs are pricey- this phillip has a heart monitor that prompts user if defib is needed based on rythym. It will pay for itself the first time it saves someone ;) - Porbably can get better prices out there....

Just throw 'em in Bonnie and I'll take 'em for a quick run up Shocksnapper. If that doesn't work I'll turn around and go back down in high range. Save us some money.
If my first run up Daniel at URE didn't put me into cardiac arrest I doubt anything will.

Just knowing you guys might apply voltage will be enough to keep my heart going all by itself.

boombapslappy: let me know what kind of resources you come up with. I may have some leads for UC members in GA, if they can't get to Greenville. Our company has a safety director (construction) and those guys are always taking courses - CPR, 1stAid, etc... I doubt they have wilderness first response training though. We also have defib unit across the hall from my office. It's about the size of a large lunch box. I'll find out more about it next week.

American Heart Association CPR Instructor here, can do classes for the entire club if anyone is interested. Also like stated above Galls sells nice first aid kits that come complete with stock, mine is loaded down with Advanced Life Support stuff and could be useful if on a trail and had air medical/ ALS en route, otherwise useless.

The defib unit we have at our office was about $1600-1700.
It measures about 9" on its longest side.
