Date & Time
Saturday January 17, 2009
Gulches opens at 10:00AM and closes at dark (plan on 5:00 -5:30) We'll meet in the parking lot at 10:00AM, rolling out shortly there after. There could be a late group around 1:00 after lunch.

Agenda
Wheel
Eat - Gulches cooks hotdogs ($1), hamburgers($3 loaded w/ chili) and has chips and drinks. Skip says a good meal can be had for under $5 (This is dutch treat, so bring your cash)
Wheel
Eat - I am working on finding a restaurant that would be willing to accept a bunch of muddy wheelers for a send-off dinner (it'll be dutch again)

Cost
$20 per truck, $5 per guest. Skip's already waived the "registration fee" and if we get more than 10 trucks, we might get a further discount. All money is for Gulches fees. We will have UC merchandise for sale, so bring some more cash :grinpimp:

Who can attend
This would be an UC event, but since we won't have the place to ourselves, it might be a good event to "try us out." Although, we might not be as liberal with our tow strap for the j**pers :flipoff2:

ConfirmedAttending
Carp
Trollhole + 1
ncsudrewh
Boot + 1
jleeFJ62
Ray King
schmitty + 1
LandSpeeder + 1

TRfWJ + 1

Other Stuff
- Gulches has primitive campsites available for those that want to try to stay overnight. Travel trailers are welcome in the parking lot, but there won't be hookups
- Gulches can get nasty if it's really wet, so just be prepared for mud and possible damage

Pics and vids can be seen in our Summer Gulches Thread

More details to come as we get them together.

I am going to try very hard to make this. Seems like a good trip for the 40.

If anyone from the Atlanta area has room for a co-pilot, I would love to split some gas with you and ride along. I just have too many things that I need to get done to the 80 before I wheel it again. I can shoot video and stills all day long! I would love to tag along if anyone will let me!

I have no excuse not to come since I live about 25mins away. I'm in! Let me know if anyone needs a place to crash.

Good to see you on here Drew! Should be a good ride at Gulches, looking forward to it.

Here's a trail map for those of you that don't know about Gulches. I've also updated the first post to include some approximate driving times...

I'll be there.

For those of you who have never been. Gulches has something for everyone. From stockers to hard core. Most places for stock vehicles are wide and the likely hood of any damage is very very slim. This is a great place to learn techniques from getting over obstcles to spotting to recovery. There is mud, rocks, sand, hills, trails, etc... It's also in an enclosed area of around 80 acres. Maps are easy to use. You don't have to follow anyone if you don't want and can do what you want. If you get in trouble all you have to do is call for help on the radio. Someone will be right around the corner.

Everyone who has gone out there has had a fun time. It's not an expedition. But it does provide a safe enviroment for you and your family and a great place to learn. If your one of those members that trailers your vehicle to an event. This place will be right up your alley. It has some very very hard trails.

Any UC member who wants to come up Friday so they can get an early start can stay at my house. I have two guest bedrooms and a bunch of couch and floor space. Just let me know prior.

I just want to clarify... This is a Monday event, right? Does this replace the Gulches run that was being planned for Saturday, Jan 17.
Thanks!

lol. I think they have the dates screwed up.

I think I actually messed up. I was planning this for the 17th, not the 19th, and that's what I talked to Skip about. I will update the first post to reflect the Saturday...

The MLK run will be held on SATURDAY JANUARY 17, 2009

Looking forward to meeting you and seein' the truck in person.

Note for everyone:
If you're planning on coming, let me know how many people you want to bring with you. This will make finding a place to eat afterwards easier.

Thanks!

I guess no chance of making it the 19th of Jan on MLK as I thought it was...LOL That is okay....just wanted to confirm.

The Lowcountry Land Cruisers are having our first Volunteer Work Day and supporting the US Forestry Service with some Trail Repairs in Francis Marion forest to help build a relationship with them down here.

Quite a few wanted to attend if it was on the Monday, 19th.....

Will see you guys in Cullowhee in February for sure though.....Have fun.

Sorry, didn't know about the LC event (I admit, I don't frequent the LC board often:whoops:).

A quick show of hands on how many people would definitely come if it were on Monday. Not that this is an option, as I haven't talked to Skip yet, but if we get 20 people willing to come on Monday, and only 3 on Saturday, I'd be willing to talk to Skip about it.

If you have already said you'd be there, would you come on Monday instead?

Hey guys...dont change it on our account...seriously. I was just wanting to confirm if it was still 19th or in fact moved to 17th. We have some members that want to go to Gulches really bad but others are doing the volunteer work.

Dont worry about it...there will be more runs. We got our own local run in early january near Orangburg.....then Cullowhee run with you guys at end of February......then we are doing Gulches ourselves in March or April...then canoe trip in May....and on and on and on.

Some will go and some will stay....just the way it is. Thanks for the offer but dont change everything around just for us. maybe we will do an impromptu run up on Monday as well... LIFE IS GOOD and GAS IS CHEAPER. :D :D I talked to guy at Gulches and he will be open for us to come up on Monday, MLK Day.....so hopefully we will have a good showing for our first Volunteer Job with US Forestry Service and also for the Gulches Run on Monday. Thanks again for the offer.
