I need to change a spring pack on my fj62..

Can I reuse my u bolts or should I get new?

The FSM does not indicate they need to be replaced upon service...correct if I'm wrong ... Many people will say "its a torque to yield bolt that should not be re-used" so take your pick.

I tend to think the toyo steel is way better quality than most aftermarket stuff. But A local spring shop should be able to make you a high quality set of u bolts for cheap...

good point...thanks

They can be reused.
Toyota u-bolts are not designated as "non-reusable" by Toyota. I have reused the same original Toyoya u-bolts on my 60 for the last 30 years, and the springs have been removed for some reason or another 3 times in that span.
The car has been overloaded beyond its GVWR many a time and has driven thousands of miles off road over the decades in Baja (overloaded).

The ubolts are still on the axle.

So, with that being said, new (Toyota) ubolt$ are the ideal option when replacing a spring, as they stretch a bit when torqued. But the front axle ubolt hangar is SOOOOO much weaker than the ubolt itself, that the hangar will distort and bend and fail far sooner than the ubolt will.

The rears though? Maybe replace the rears to be on the ultra, ultra safe side if you want. They'll be all shiny too.

Yeah doesn't say they should be replaced but the SET was $40 plus shipping from Man-A-Fre. To me that is worth the cost. Same with greaseable shackles and spring hanger pins. Price is cheap enough that it is worth it in the long run.

I'm of the opinion that u-bolts are to be replaced when removed.

thanks again..some good points to consider..I will stop into the local spring shop and see how much for a new set and go from there.
