Two pretty unrelated questions (1 Viewer)

First question: Has anyone had troubles with fuel injection system after dis-assembly for head replacement? My rig is currently at mechanic for replacement of cracked up
2LTE for a 3L head and can't get the fuel injection system settled back in. Timing has been inspected and reset. Any ideas...tips tricks?....and yes, my mechanic
will likely not appreciate me asking this on a forum, but its my daily driver and I desperately need to have it back!! We are officially 7 days past original return
estimate.

Question two: What should I charge for this beauty? Selling as a spare to someone who is keeping their Prado as stock as possible.

On the 1st question, total guess, has air bubbles in the fuel system still.

GTSSportCoupe, do you have any words of wisdom on most efficient way to chase possible bubbles/blocks/leaks in fuel system? The pump is working and timed properly and there is fuel flowing thru the filter.

Hi Yolo, can you describe the symptoms your engine is having right now? Does it start? Is it rough and smokey upon starting? Does it eventually smooth out and run well, or not?

I recommend replacing the clamps on the flexible fuel lines in the engine compartment. You could replace the fuel lines too if they are hard and cracked at the ends. Probably the most common way that air gets into the system on these is via the primer pump/fuel filter assembly. They definitely do start leaking air after a while. The whole thing should be replaced. You can buy OEM, or just get a knock-off one for cheap from ebay (I have an ebay one and it's been fine).

Did your mechanic replace the copper and aluminum washers at the injectors? Sometimes I've had leaks there also, and it's just a matter of giving the fuel rail to injector retaining nuts a little more torque.

You can always check the engine error codes too to see if there are any sensor issues as seen by the ECU. I can point you to a couple old threads on how to do this if you want.

I just realized I hadn’t responded… your feedback was spot on, it turned out to be the fuel pump primer. My mechanic figured that out shortly before I had the opportunity to ask him if it was the issue keeping it from running.
So now it runs but is super rough and lots of white smoke on startup. I replaced the GP the first year I had it, but then it ran to the point of head cracking…so they may have gotten “scorched”. What’s next, injectors? And how urgent is it considering I just had the head rebuilt?

White smoke is generally air in the system. O-ring seated correctly on the fuel filter?

White smoke can also be water/coolant burning.

Not really. Injectors just dont go bad and replacing them would be throwing good money after bad. White smoke can also be poor compression, incorrect timing or coolant in the cyl head. Coolant burn makes an acrid smell.

I would dearly love that 16 inch rim. I was able to find 4 of them for our 1991 diesel 75 series pickup Golden Boy but never the 5th for the spare. The pickup is located in Arlington Virginia. (I'm in the Middle East right now.)

I just happened to ship an OEM NEW steel rim from Utah to a buddy in Canada who needed it for his toopy; UPS was surpisingly easy and cost like 40 bucks or somehting. Carrying the rim with me in my luggage from Dubai to Salt Lake was .... interesting.

Not hardly! What happened was that I had 5 6-bolt rims (new) from dismantlers in Sharjah and a fellow Mud person was passing through Dubai and wanted them for his AUS diesel troopy (darn that 15 year rule up there) and so he actually boxed up 4 of the 5 and took FOUR on the plane with him back to Canada. That's hard core! The 5th was a non-starter because the guys at the garage mistakenly gave him one of the split rims, same color, freshly painted, and he dislikes/fears splits in modern day North America as much as I do. (Imagine the guys at Mr. Tire trying to deal with one.) I was just bringing him the 5th one.
