My PS mirror keeps twitching. Anyone ever experience this? It sees like the motor tries to engage and it stops itself. I can still move the mirror with the switch and it is positioned correctly ( I can see the cars behind me) it just keeps moving slightly and am afraid I am going to burn out the moror. It is amazing how annoying the reflection from headlights is when it twitches a few times a minute.

Does it do this while you are sitting in the driveway with the IGN on and engine off, can you hear the motor running and reversing?
Do you have auto seat position, auto tilt and telescopic wheel position?

It is not the mirror glass, it is the whole mirror head moving. It gets loose over time and there's not much that can be done without replacing the mirror head. Mine did this for a few years before I finally figured out it wasn't the mirror glass/motor because that's what it looks like at speed. You can try tightening up the three screws in the bottom of the mirror head, but that usually won't do much.

I finally replaced both mirror heads because it was driving my crazy. That solved the problem. Now I'm on to other things that drive me crazy.

Best way to test is to have your passenger roll down the window and hold the mirror head at speed. Dollars to donuts it will be steady.

Mine does the same thing. The entire mirror heads moves. Mine happens on the interstate at highway speeds. Its annoying but not enough to replace the entire assembly. Let us know if you figure something out...

Hit a tree with it. :p

Ours did this as well until I applied the above fix. No more wiggles.

Or you can do what I did a few years ago and hit the side of your garage on the way out.

That seems to work just as well.

the glass on my DS has twitched since i got the car. i've learned to ignore it.

Yes. AFAIK the only resolve is to replace the entire mirror assembly...

On my 80 series, I was able to use some putty to fix the broken mount piece. There are detailed instructions in the 80's forum, but I haven't torn into my 100 mirror to see if it's the same. pix of the 80 series problem, and fix. The black bracket holds the mirror onto the housing, and one of the mounting holes had broken off.

Same here, my '99 PS mirror (just the glass I think, not the entire unit/body) twitches. I never realized it before but I think it is just at highway speeds. A little weird but I guess I've just learned to ignore it.

I posted in another thread but I will post what I found here. My does the same thing at highway speeds. At first I thought it was the motor. It kind of acts like what the mirror does does when it reached it limit while adjusting. Checking the mirror itself the whole top part of the mirror housing is loose on the base that is bolted to the door. Looking at the phillips screws in the bottom of the base I can see two of them move while moving the mirror. Pop the mirror forward and you can see the piece in the base moving. Unable to get the phillips screw loose. Don't want to screw out the head. Once I figure a way to get them loose I plan on using a washer to see if I can tight it up. I'll post back if I can get it tighted up. It does seem funny it very common on the passenger's side mirror and not the driver's side. Design flaw?

This past weekend I did a speaker replacement and had both front door panels off...so I did remove both mirrors, squirted some PB blaster on the Philips screws and removed them...I did not see any gasket so I reassembled with some hex head screws just in case I needed to get at them without removing the door panels. I was able to completely reduce the wobbling or twitching by snugging them up.

Good as new.

I saw no evidence of a gasket or rubber piece that provided the wobble resistance. Tighten up those screws a tad and that was all that Was needed.
