thanks.

i'd go get the code pulled from a local auto parts dealer
i have never heard of the CEL coming on if you are past service interval

I have. My Dad's 2004 UZJ100 did this same thing. To turn off the CEL you put the key in the ignition, turn it to ON (one before start; may be RUN) while holding in the odometer button. Turn ignition to OFF, while holding in the odometer button. Then go back to ON. If you hold in the odometer button the whole time, the CEL will start blinking. Once it does, go back to OFF, and when you start the truck, the CEL should be gone.

This is all from memory, but it's something like that. Hopefully, someone with a FSM can tell you exactly what to do. Or call the dealership, I'm sure they'll tell you.

However, Jonpierre still gave you good advice. If you are throwing a code, and you're not ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN that it is because of a maintenance schedule, you should get it read. You do not want to reset the CEL without checking the codes, because they'll get erased, I believe.

Cheers,
Jay

if you want peace of mind, get a code reader ($40 from HF) or have it checked at Autozone etc for free.

On our Nav Sys 03, you set the maintainance intervals to whaterver you want.

Im confused, is the CEL the same thing as the check engine light coming on. Is it just a different termanology that you guys use????

IIRC, besides the NavSys on ours, there are 2 different lights on the instrum cluster: a CEL and a "maintenance required" light.

Hang on here we go. The definition of the check engine light coming on is something has caused the emissions level to exceed 1.5 times the federal allowable limit. OK with that said the check engine light coming on will not hurt anything except if it is flashing. Flashing cel means there is a misfire that is severe enough to possibly cause damage to the catalytic convertor. Along with everyone else I would highly recommend retrieving the code. You can clear the code without a tool. Key off , pull the efi fuse for 30 seconds or more. The efi fuse is in the underhood fuse block. And last, everyone will like this one - RED light on dash - stop as soon as possible, Yellow - caution - needs attention but not immediately, we use this with our customers, works good with wives too!!

BHM I tried that but it didn't work my cel light is still on, it didnt blink or anything.
1. turned the key on before start
2. I pressed the odometer button down
3. turned the key off while still holding down the button
4. turned the key back to the on position while still holding down the button
and it doesn't blink or go off at all. Am I doing somthing wrong. I even took some one elses advise on here and unpluged the efi fuse (the little one) under the hood for 30sec or more and that still didn't do it.

Lexus I tried that but it didn't work,
with the key out of the ignition I pulled the little efi fuse out witch is next to the big efi fuse block under the hood for 30SEC or more but it didn't work. Im I doing somthing wrong or did I not keep it out long enough?????????

Alright, first lets clairfy which light is on. Is it the Check engine light or the maintenance required light?? The reset procedure is different for each one. If it is the check engine light and you pulled the fuse but the light won't go out then whatever is wrong is being detected by the computer as soon as you turn the ignition on.

Ok it's diffenitly is the check engine light any suggestions

If its the check engine light, you're going to have to find out what the code is. If it comes back on immediately then like I said before the fault is always happening and happens when the key is turned on. Start with the code # and we will go from there.

Thank Lexusben, I will see about buying a code reader and get back to you>
