Quick fix with a cheapie Amazon $20 generic coil pack. The code followed from cyl 5 to cyl 1 when swapped. Not enough miles on it yet to know how long the new coil will last. I have a couple genuine made in Japan Denso's on order to keep on hand for the next one(s) failure. I must remember to keep my scanner in the truck for out of town trips. If subsequent coils fail sooner rather than later, I'll just replace all 8 but too cheap to do all of them now. Are any cylinders more prone to coil failures than others or is it random?

Does the ECU cut off individual injectors when a P030x fault is set? I don't want to risk driving very far when the next one fails lest it wash down the cylinder with raw gas.

Of the two coil packs I've had go bad, I've just replaced those individually, I don't get replacing them all proactively, too much money for me. The ECU doesn't shut off fuel, that's why you'll get a flashing CEL with that code if you keep driving, it's dumping unburnt fuel into the cats.
