If you open it up, the back pressure might suffer without reprogramming on shift points, etc. The system learns. There are plenty of options to reprogram and improve. I was contemplating this step with a stock setup since my tires size affects shift points as well.

I'm honestly not sure. It's just a single in-single out muffler. Local exhaust guy has done a ton of work for the shop and we trust his judgment on what's best. But I think he missed the mark on this one. But it's definitely hurting

After I put a TRD intake, snorkel and custom exhaust with a flower master super44 it drove terrible. But then I disconnected the battery for 15 min and let the computer reset. Shift points were much better and I noticed a fair amount of acceleration gains.

It will run a little funny at first but that's the computer just learning your new air intake and back pressure. When you do drive it after you have done this try and drive like you normally would so it will match your everyday driving habits.
