Sorry if this is bad etiquette or against the rules here. I have my 1997 LX450 that I LS Swapped with a 6.0 L96 and a 6L80e. I dropped real money building it as it has a Speartech harness, Ron Davis Radiator, Lockers, Dual Batts, and all other kinds of bling. I love it. It hauls bacon all day long and the 4:1 1st in the 6L80 is nice in 4Lo. I am building parts to do my next one, which is a 6BT/NV4500 swap, but I am stunned at the asking prices of the 80s out there. I see them priced at or more than my entire build cost me. That includes, original purchase, engine, tranny, bumpers, rack, awning, drawers, skid plates, all the odds and ends, etc.

My two questions are:

1. Are these rigs actually selling for $20k+?
2. What would you expect to see an LS swapped one go for? If the market is there, I would have to consider selling my current to fund my future.

Here is my build thread: Builds - Another LS swap? Really???

1) To me, its hard to speak generally about prices, and yes there are some selling for $20k plus, but I’d say the vast, vast majority are selling for less than that. Sub 100k miles, 3x locked are at massive prices, and there’s some premium builds >$20k, but that’s most of it from what I can tell.

There are many 3x locked listed between 10-15k with various levels of upgrades/conditions. Some listed more, some less (but may be requiring more work). And ultimate sale prices may be below ask. Those priced very attractively may be purchased within a day, others perhaps weeks or longer.

2) I don’t know. I’ll only say that it’s seemingly a more limited buyer set interested in a swapped build (e.g., not me), but I’d venture someone who knows they want that (or if it’s presented as being a material benefit) is willing to pay a premium for it. And your build looks nice. Make the listing detailed and complete without requiring reading the full build thread and highlighting all you’ve done (which is a lot, judging by the thread). Just be ok if it doesn’t move quickly if you price it at a premium.

For your future build, are you looking for the perfect vehicle or would you perhaps consider a listing already in need of a new engine and/or other repairs? No idea the conditions of these, but multiple are listed and can be had for much less than the above. For example:
1997 Toyota Land Cruiser (needs engine) Triple Locked - auto parts -...

Last winter, my 97 with 4.7L and TRD SC, slinky, regeared, 35.s, all mods sold for $42,000.

Thanks for the feedback. I am considering all them I come across, but I was stunned at how the prices have trended up in the 3 years since I bought mine.
