should i buy a bender or buy a cage from metaltech. (I live in portland and can actually drive to pick it up). Metaltech has sweet roll cages but i think i could build one if i just had the right tools. i think i could get set up with a bender (manual/pro-tools 105 style) for about the same price as a cage, am i going to waste precious DOM tubing and money figuring this thing out? even so then i have a bender...
I think i need some help talking me into this. any takers?
p.s. already have welder, plasma cutter, air, blah, blah, blah.
thanks,
Mark

if you got the tools, you just need the know how. and you better be sure about the design, it's gotta save your life.

I have a bender, JD2'd #3...love the fact that is in my garage but it only gets used a few times a year. I have already made my $ back on it but it did take some getting used to. I went through a few sticks getting everything right.
If you already have the welder and plazma cutter this would be the next toy, I meant tool, to have.

Ive Heard Great things about the Protools 105.. Thats the one im planning on getting, Sorry no first hand experience.. but i do know that anything less than the Protools will Waste Metal, and Bend like Dog Crap

Really! Please explain?:flipoff2:

Before I bought my MetalTech cage I did the math between buying a bender and tubing vs/ buying one. I decided that once you buy the bender and tubing and add in the time to bend, scrap, and wasted tubing it would only make sence if you were building a buggy or plan a lot of projects that you could use the bender for. The quality of the MetalTech cages is tom notch and if you dont have to pay for shipping it is an even better deal.

I am in the process of assembling my second metal-tech cage, did one for an Urban Land Cruisers customer, and am now doing one for me.

I am about halfway done with mine, I have maybe 4 hours in it. I am working by myself. It is the full cage with everything but the door bars.

For the time and money saved, the metal-tech made a ton of sense. It is a quality cage.

I do recommend buying a tube notcher. It saves a ton of time. I just bought a $100 Jd2 entry-level one. Works great.

I like the fact you can buy it and buy some dies and then upgrade to hydro later!

Thanks
I have that same bender. It is a good bender. Here is a link to the thread about putting hydro on mine...

And here is a link to some of the work I have done with it.

For the $$$ I think it is a good solution. I got mine from http://www.tricktools.com
