transition year fj40...still has center diff....correct?

If 63 was a transition year then I guess all years are transition years. 1961 was the real 25/40 transition year. Those are just hacked wheel wells. It just bothers me when experts like TLC list stuff on ebay that's not correct. They listed early side shift transmission as from a 68 when the side shifter ended sometime during the 63 model year. They may have got the transmission out of a 68 but how many 40s have you seen with parts off of other 40s. It took three listings to sell the whole thing. The second time the buyer just wanted the shift linkage. Then listed again a third time as from a 68. I sent them a message during the second auction informing them about the year but they didn't change the listing. I wonder if the buyer of the linkage was able to use it since it was off a RHD vehicle. Maybe this is why they don't use the TLC name on ebay. I remember them having a problem in the past with a FJ45 bed too. Seems they sold the tailgate to one person then give to the guy who bought the bed. I know anybody can make a mistake but when someone informs you of the mostake and don't do anything to correct then I have a problem.

Hmmm…I did notice the anomalies with regards to the ’63 "FJ25" tub, but I figured that there still may be enough stuff in the listing for someone doing some work.

I love the feed back though…you guys always have great input…particularly over some outfits I/we should pay particular attention to when making purchases…thanks John

I emailed them when the auction was first listed informing them that it was an early FJ40 with cut wheel wells and at the time I didn't realize it was TLC4x4; I recieved an email back telling me I was mistaken and that some early 40's came with rounded wheel wells as late as 1963  and that they had owned several others like it :meh:

what year did the center diff stop?

63 seems to be the last year of the centered diffs. But the FJ25 had different brakes and a long pinion. The pinion in the FJ40 is alot shorter. I have or at least parts of number 202 off the production line of FJ40s. it had squared off wheel well opening, short pinion and two wheel cylinder per wheel brakes.
