So while I was playing golf today, the LC got broken into. Somebody with some experience did it. Shoved something behind the passenger side door handle, opened the door right up.

Wallet...gone. IPhone...gone. .380 that I use for concealed carry...gone.

Man I hate a thief.

Anyway, don't know if u can tell from the pics, but the handle assembly is popped out from the door panel bout 1/2". My question is..Why didn't the alarm go off??? The truck was locked and armed with the master key.

Man that's awful! Hate that happened. I agree it looks like they knew what they were doing...

My guess is they popped out the handle and unlocked it from there. Since they turned the door lock the car thinks the key was turned and unlocks and deactivates the alarm. Now if they smashed the window and unlocked it from the inside then the alarm would go off.

This. The cruiser can't recognize the key in the door, only that the lock was turned. Hence, door open with no alarm.

F**king theives will continue to find ways to circumvent anti-theft measures no matter how in-depth they are. When I get around to it, I'm going to rig my LC with an aftermarket alarm with some interior piezos that will make it so unbearable to be in the cabin with the alarm going off, that the theif will almost physically HAVE to run for fear of going deaf.

Sucks man. This has happened to me four times in my life, and it's a gut wrenching feeling knowing that someone has rifled through all of your stuff and taken your belongings. Hopefully your insurance will help offset the loss. Obvious point, but get the serial number from the .380 to the local PD immediately if you haven't done so already.

Didn't think about that, that's exactly what they did. Insurance will cover the damage to the truck (turns out vandalism falls under my $100 deductible for comprehensive coverage), but nothing for the contents. Honestly, i was just glad there wasn't a ton of damage done. I cancelled all my cards before the thief could do much damage.

Yes, filed a police report immediately, provided the PD with the serial from the gun...

Hmm - makes me wonder now why my passenger door handle was like that about a month ago. Nothing stolen from the truck, but I thought it odd that the handle was suddenly loose.

WOW, did not even know that was possible. Saw on another site recently a link from youtube on how any garage door with an electric door can be broken into in under 10 sec and a simple prevent (safety wire the quick release from the pull down handle) because so many people have had their hot rods/classic cars stolen recently.

Amazing the amount of time and effort people will go to steal/cheat/etc but not get an education and work.

Fxxx! Are we all this vulnerable? What's a good economical alarm system that does the job? I miss my remote start I had on the 80 anyways?

Sorry to hear this happened man. Thieves are the scum of the earth IMO. Stealing should come with a MUCH larger penalty than what is currently in the justice system.

I had my FJ Cruiser broken into about a year ago, stole iPod and point-n-shoot canon camera.

My insurance didn't cover those items either, they said it would fall under home owners/renters insurance.

Man I'm sorry to hear that, that's awful! This exact thing happened to my Uncle's Jeep last week. Guy popped off the door handle and unlocked it in the same style. Been robbed about 5 times in my life, and it sucks... Had my Cruiser broken into a few years ago, took a 9mm, my Guitar, and numerous small stuff...

Did it happen at the golf course? Check their surveillance. If it was at your house, tell your neighbors and ask them if they saw any vehicles that werent usually in the area creepin around. Doin just that helped me catch the guy that broke into my house.

And I second that thieves aren't punished to the extent that they should be. Kid that broke into my house got a slap on the wrist and owes me $1200 in retribution... Considering he doesnt even have a job, how is he paying for that? My guess: still stealing...

Don't you almost wish you had been standing about 50 feet away holding a 12 ga. loaded with 00 Buckshot when he got out with your 380 in his hand?

Might have been his last theft.

That sucks and to add insult to injury it looks like a bird to a crap on your truck also.

That's funny right there. Actually a while flock of birds. Truck is covered.

Not only does that really suck ass, but I'm also disappointed to learn that it's so easy to break into a 100. I had a Tahoe before purchasing my '04 LC, and I had that thing broke into several times. The first time it happened I had it parked in a parking garage while taking my then 5 year old son and one of his friends to a movie. Apparently the perp wanted my portable XM radio. Anyway, we get back to the truck and I just thought my dumb ass failed to remember to lock the truck. My son was really disturbed by the theft because he called the XM radio the "XM Kids Radio" after his favorite station. He wanted to run home immediately to get his Batman costume on and catch the bad guys. Classic.

Turned out that all you had to do to break into the Tahoe (or any other full size Chevy truck model up to the recent body style change) was to slip a skinny flat head screw driver in the seam between the bottom of the plastic door handle and the metal door. Easy as pie, and doesn't set off the alarm. I couldn't even tell it had been done, and it took a couple of more break-ins before a parking garage attendant showed me the small dent and scrape in the seam from how they did it. I'd wager you that, if you looked carefully, 50% or more late 90s to 2006 full size Chevy trucks have the tell tale signs of a similar break in, and that's the primary reason I sold that piece of s*** Tahoe (other than that I always wanted a LC). I'm pretty bummed to learn it's almost as easy to break into an LC.

Dang - I'm sorry to hear (and see) that.

I noticed the driver's door handle on my FJ was popped out a bit a few weeks ago but assumed it was from wheeling and hitting a tree/branch/whatever. I just looked at it and didn't see any very visible pry marks but the area around the keyhole is definitely loose. My FJ was broken into about a year ago and the cops told me I must have left the door unlocked... hmmm...

it's rather disturbing it's so easy to open...

It's only a matter of time before the weaknesses in any vehicle are found. There are auto theft rings that do nothing but "R&D" (if you can call it that) different ways to quickly and easily break into cars. This is the newest trend, and tends to be the method that the pros use because it's essentially silent, allowing them more time to root through the car and find the hidden good stuff.

I came from a GM SUV, too...but when the bastards broke into it last year they just smashed the window out and went to town on the glove box. Different strokes.

I have an automated sentry gun inside the vehicle that arms when I lock the doors. Super easy to setup, and effective at stopping thieves.

Messy but effective!

I'm sorry...

These vermin wait and watch for their victims to walk away from their vehicles, then move in & they know they have time and that almost no one will notice them.
