I picked up a 00 LC this weekend. The previous owner replaced the door speakers and tweeters with Infinity speakers (Unclear which model yet). Apparently, when he did this the two front door speakers and tweeters stopped working soon after. I can hear them very faintly I think. The rears and sub work. Before I start ripping things out I want to try to figure out a couple of things.

1.) What do you think caused this to happen? e.g. Is it possible that the newer speakers were higher impedance and that fried the amp?

2.) What do you think is "broken" . e.g wiring, amp fried, something else?

3.) Best way to validate that idea?

Head unit is stock 6 disc changer. Subs are 2 4" OEM.

I want to fix this but I'm also wary about going crazy rewiring everything in a 20 y/o car. In my experience, shoddy alarms and stereos seem to drive a majority of broader electrical issues.

Thanks!

It's probably the amp. This happened to me twice. I don't know why but got tired of dealing with it. I replaced the amp with a junkyard replacement twice. The third time it happened, it started killing my battery, so I bipassed the amp and installed an aftermarket head unit. Seems to have eliminated the issue.

Interesting. Did you have factory speakers or aftermarket?
