That 1ZF had me wondering. That engine wasn't available until the 93 model 80 series in the US. A 94 is illegal to import to the US under the 25 year rule. Some Land Rovers were imported by false paper work saying they were older then 25 years. Goverment was tracking them down and crushing them. $45K is a lot of money to risk ending up with nothing.

First production vehicle with 1FZ-F I've seen evidence (with limited resources, mind you) was an early '90, the FZ-FE late '93. The only '85 Troopies being 3B'd or 3F'd.

Based on what I've experienced in OK, I'm thinking this was titled based on block casting, not frame or body (or the frame or body VIN was modified to block casting), or possibly, import registration was doctored.

Either way, that's a big ticket entry to a screwing, because there's no way it's legit.

That said, if there's any in the viewing audience that were upset the weren't the high bidder, say +$35k, have I a deal for you. :)

No way.

Theres a link on BringaTrailer with the same vin numbered Troopy for sale on ebay.....that was salvaged out of .texas. it was white in the salvage boneyard.....but listed with the same vin. This ebay one is likely the same one with straightened out parts and an iffy unsalvage title. probably just grabbed a trashed 80 frame/ title and swapped in.

earliest 1fz showed up in 85-86 in Japan vehicles of various types. Earliest ones were carbed. fe ones were showing up around same time 3fe - 1988 roughly. Toyota had the 1fz in development and testing for quite some. The late 80s early 90s was a fairly prolific period of engineering development for Toyota with respect to its machinery and process advances like Forging , finishing , casting etc. and machinery made for the Honsho Plant which was its testbed facility as well as pparts production.
