Troopy questions

Looking at a few troopies online right now, and was wondering a few things.
1. How hard is it to put in AC
2. Is there a "standard" fwd facing rear seat people use?
3. Does the top come off?
4. Is it possible/desireable to retrofit rear passenger doors (I have 2 kids that would be sitting in the seat mentioned in #2 above)
5. If the top comes off, is there a soft top available?
6. How is the 2H diesel engine as far as power for these?
7. Would owning a Troopie make me more of a pimp with the ladies?

Thanks

1. Similar to a 40, not too hard
2. Similar to a 40
3. Yes
4. Uh, what? Possible, yes, desireable, hell no. If you want rear passenger doors get a FJ45LV they come as a 4 door.
5. Yes, Marv Specter can get you the canvas, you'd need to locate or fabricate some bows.
6. 2H... no idea never had one
7. Yes, unless you throw a mini van seat in the back and cut holes in the sides for access for your kids.

i have nothing to add to ken's reply; it's perfect!:)

I Think I May Go Soft Top On Mine.
Nice! Thanks.

I'm looking at a couple on ebay right now.
What engine do you have? Do you feel it has enough power? Will it travel highway speeds (up to 70-ish) and does it have enough pickup to pull out into traffic?

I am assuming that FJ-40 upgrade parts will fit on these (suspension, bumpers, etc) correct?

Troopie

I Have The H Motor. It Has Plenty Of Power But The 2h Is Better And Offers Alot More Options As Far As A/c And Power Steering. Suspention Will Not Interchange With The 40 But Bumpers, Some Body, And Small Things Will. The Troopie Is Setup As A One Ton Truck It Has Alot More Beefy Suspention. If You Are Looking At The One In Miami It Looks To Be A Nice One. I Am Curent High Bidder But I Put In My Max And Did Not Reach The Reserve, So I Am Out, I Did Buy Mine From Him, Nice Guy And You Can Trust His Discription.

That one doesn't have AC. What is involved in adding it?
How about power steering?

I think that one has the 2H in it.

Troopie

There Is A Guy In Austraila That Has Lots Of Used Parts. I Would Buy Compleat Setups From Him And Then Replace A/c Dryer And Compresor With New. It Will All Bolt On. Parts Are Not That Hard To Get.

#1 Don't know, but will send pics when I complete a vintage air install, in the next few months.

#4 Retrofitting rear doors would be a PITA. I've seen it on OZ models, but it doesn't look clean.

#6 The 2H motor has better oil flow through the motor. It has a little better getup and go, but it's not noticable.

Putting a Turbo on your vehicle would be a much better option. PM me or email if you want to talk.

#7 Yes... Throw a mattress in the back with a Disco Ball and you are all set:D

2h is pretty underpowered, you will be able to hit 60, and yes you can drive them in traffic, but don't be in a hurry

2h's like to crack heads too.

chicks love troopies

Softtop can be made in Pakistan. Eshan will be more than happy to make you one. Email him directly and he will find a group to put you in. Yep, it's cheaper to buy as a group.

What would you reccomend then? H? :)

none of them... i'd take a troopy with a 2f on lpg (propain), in australia it's heaps cheaper to run.

if you must, a 2h with a turbo...but watch temps because those sucka's like to crack heads.

1hz swap :) :)

Are the large windows on the troopy the sliding kind? They look like the same ones that are in my BJ44. I am looking for some of the window guts to replace. I have the rubber and the felt run, but I know there is another part that I need. Could you get me the info on this guy in Australia?

regarding the AC question... what's the advice on an RV roof-mounted air conditioner for a hard-top troopie?

The 2H is rather soft, I have TBs 60 series with a AXT turbo, it pulled a ring up through the piston and ejected out the exhaust trashing the turbine wheel.

Not my fave engine in the toy line.
