i have a neighbor that has one of those dark red cherry trees, it hangs over where i park and it seems to be depositing crap on my windshield, its making the glass look hazy or pitted almost like its been sandblasted but its not IN the glass but on top. its also all over the paint. I've tried some of that tar and sap remover but to no avail. Any suggestions on getting this stuff off? Or do i need to have it professionally done. This might not be the right place to post it but i do have a 80.

clay bar?

On sap that the claybar can't get withouat a lot of effort, I've used a Scunci Steamer with great success. Scunci Steamer

Just use a towel with some rubbing alcohol on it. It will dissolve the sap away. Spirits (i.e., tar remover) won't work.

Or the easy way out:

Park somewhere else.

I found a product called Tarminator that works. It does take some scrubbing with a towel. This stuff works really well on trail marks and other general grime too.
In my experience, it is about 20 times faster than clay bar for pitch.

wet the entire vehicle, take a bottle of windex - (not cheap immitation windex) spray it over the entire wet vehicle. let sit for 5-10 minutes and wash as normal. you might have to do it a couple of times but this will work well.

I just used flitz metal polish on my 80 for salt deposits and rust spots and it worked like a dream! I imagine it would work good for you too! then i used ICE liquid clay bar two coats and polish and wax!

Then get a chainsaw and cut the limbs that are hanging over your parking spot! Or tell your neighbor!

I don't know if it would work for this, but I have used WD-40 to wipe road tar off my truck. Just spray it on and wipe it off with a paper towel. No apparent damage to the paint, but it makes that sticky tar just turn into a liquid that wipes right off.

i've tried tthe windex deal no go. tried the tarminator stuff as well didn't do a thing. i tried to soak a towel with both windex And tarminator and leave on the windshield for a good couple of hours didn't do anything. I'm going to try the alcohol/nail polish remover after duty today, if that doesn't work then go find someplace that has those clay bars. As for the neighbors trees, they are a pain the keester, no place else to park as hey i live in San Francisco parking is a commodity. So if you hear about an arrest of a guy dressed like a ninja chopping down a tree in the middle of the night you know what happened.

there is some stuff you can buy at the drug or grocery store called GooGone. give that a try?

x2...WD-40

I too live in SF. My problem isn't the trees, it's the power lines over my LC that the pigeons sit on... Maybe we can have a SF "beautification obstruction removal party".

PM me if you want to meet for beers and look at some LC's.

bought the wood grain alcohol tonight, gonna try that tomorrow, if not my younger brother swears that the stuff they use on his helos at work will take it off, its some stuff they use on the canopy glass supposed to bring some tomorrow.

i've been lucky with the power lines, they removed my blocks lines about 2 months before the big storms hit. Look for a PM from me in the next few weeks on the beer and cruisers.

go to walmart and by cheap bottle of carb/choke cleaner. it will work.

Alcohol will work - any kind really (wood alcohol=methanol which is what you get from a paint store, or isopropanol=rubbing alcohol which is what you get from the drug store). It also works very easily and gently without hurting your paint.

But DO NOT USE nail polish remover! That contains acetone and ethyl acetate which will take off your paint and may do nothing to the sap.

The idea is to dissolve off the sap, and that's exactly what the alcohol will do. All the WD, tar remover, carb cleaner, etc. stuff is not good at doing this.
